Parents and caregivers, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, approximately half of all child car seats are not installed correctly. Child Passenger Safety Week is a good time for parents to check and make sure their children are in the right car seats. That’s a wrap on the 2026 National Top Trooper Competition! Tprs. Anastasia Mohler and Max Prince represented the Michigan State Police with pride, competing against troopers from 30 state police agencies across the country. They closed out the week with a team obstacle course that included balancing across logs, pulling themselves hand-over-hand through an overhead ladder, crawling through a tunnel and finishing at the shooting ranges. The MSP team came in fifth place overall! We’re also excited to celebrate some great individual results. Trooper Mohler took first place in the Top Leadership Assessment Interview (Female), while Trooper Prince was runner-up in the Top Physical Fitness (Male) category. Congratulations to both on a job well done, and to all the competitors who took on this challenge! Thanks to the @OSHP for hosting!

On Wednesday, September 23, MSP employees Kim Dowling and Cindy Homant visited the Herbert-Herman Cancer Center/University of Michigan Health Sparrow in Lansing to deliver 139 comfort bags to be given to patients being treated at the center. Kim and Cindy, cancer survivors themselves, are members of the MSP No One Fights Alone (NOFA) Cancer and Tumor Support Group that they created so MSP members who are battling cancer or just received a diagnosis do not have to navigate the cancer journey solo. The bags contain numerous comfort items such as blankets, books, water bottles along with other items, to help patients be more comfortable while they are receiving treatment at the hospital. The NOFA group coordinates internal donation drives to collect care items to put in the bags which are then donated to the center. Kim and Cindy took the time to meet with patients receiving treatment and presented them with a comfort bag and offered encouragement with their treatment. News Release 09/21/2026 Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team to Conduct Training Exercise in Eaton Rapids Eaton Rapids, Eaton County-Residents who notice a large police presence in Eaton Rapids this week should not be concerned. On Tuesday, September 22, the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team will be conducting a training exercise at the former Northwestern Elementary School, located at 400 Dexter Rd, in Eaton Rapids. On Thursday, September 24, the team will also be conducting a training exercise at Oak Ridge Park which is adjacent to the old school. The exercises are part of routine training activities for the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team. The Emergency Support Team created in 1974 specializes in handling highly dangerous and critical incidents, such as hostage rescue, barricaded gunman, high risk arrest and search warrant service. The team is comprised of troopers from around the state.
