The internet saw a mom walking back to her seat at a Giants game carrying her baby, a backpack AND food while her husband sat there eating.
And whewww⦠they had that manās entire character figured out within SECONDS.
People called him lazy. A deadbeat. Said she was basically parenting alone. Some were literally telling this woman to LEAVE HER HUSBAND.
There was just one problemā¦
They couldnāt hear what was happening. And they had absolutely no idea WHY this family was at that baseball game in the first place.
The mom, Erika Alvarez, eventually spoke out because the backlash toward her husband Ramses had gotten so bad.
And the context changes EVERYTHING.
Before she ever left their seats, Ramses had offered to take their baby.
Erika chose to keep the baby with her because it was chilly and having her in the carrier helped keep her warm.
While Erika was already up, SHE texted her husband a picture of the food menu and offered to grab something for him since she was passing it anyway.
Then she came back carrying everything.
Thatās the moment the cameras caught.
What they DIDNāT capture was Ramses clearing her seat when she returned, offering to let her eat first, offering to take things from her and even offering to share/feed her some of his sandwich.
She told him to eat. Because sheād already eaten before the gameā¦
and he hadnāt had a full meal that day.
But thereās another piece nobody watching that tiny clip couldāve possibly known.
Ramses was grieving the recent death of a close longtime friend who had played baseball.
According to Erika, there hadnāt been a funeral or memorial, so SHE suggested they go to a Giants game. She wanted her husband to sit down, watch baseball, eat some stadium food and have a moment to remember his friend.
She was taking care of him.
Yet the internet saw her carrying a few things for a few seconds and decided he was a terrible husband who expected his wife to do everything.
And apparently it went WAY beyond some snarky comments.
Erika said strangers found their personal information, and Ramses even received messages telling him to kill himself.
Over. A. Video. Clip.
Listen, Iām ALL FOR calling out men who sit comfortably while their wives carry the baby, the diaper bag, the food, the mental load and everything else. š
But this is such a perfect example of something social media has made us forget:
A camera can show you exactly what happened in a moment and STILL not show you the truth of the situation.
We saw her hands were full.
We couldnāt hear him offering to help.
We couldnāt hear her telling him to eat.
We couldnāt see the conversations theyād already had.
And we definitely couldnāt see the grief that man was carrying while his wife was quietly trying to take care of him.
Sometimes weāre not missing a little context.
Weāre missing the entire damn story.
