I didn't know Presley Gerber. But I was rooting for him from afar, the way you root for anyone you recognize battling the same demons. Addiction is a disease that knows no bounds. It doesn't care who your parents are, how much money you have, how loved you are, or how hard you're trying. And he was trying. He fought for his recovery in public, in front of a world that offers very little mercy to people who struggle where everyone can see. We lost nearly 200 people to overdose in this country yesterday. We'll lose nearly 200 more today. About 1,300 a week. Almost 6,000 a month. Roughly 70,000 last year. Every one of them was somebody's Presley. He started Mental Health Mondays because, in his words, "the goal was to spark real conversations about the stuff most people hide." So don't hide. Ask for help. Keep asking. It’s true that no one has a right to report “fake” news. If something is intentionally inaccurate, a plaintiff can prove libel or slander in court. That’s not what’s happening here. There’s no specific case being presented. Officials can’t discriminate against journalists simply because they don’t like their point of view. Every time authorities have tried to do so called “viewpoint discrimination,” they’ve lost in court. Often in the past, journalists themselves have stood in solidarity to defend their colleagues’ press freedoms. In 2009, the Obama Administration tried to exclude FOX News from a pool interview. The other networks refused to participate unless they were included. One day later, the Obama team changed course. It’ll be interesting to see how FOX and other outlets respond this time around after CNN, MSNow and POLITCO were “banned” from the White House grounds. The media ecosystem is obviously very different now than in 2009. But the dangerous thing about “viewpoint discrimination” is it could break both ways. If this is allowed to stand, what’s to stop a potential future Democratic Administration from banning the Wall Street Journal, FOX News, etc.? That would be a terrible thing too. Accountability for our public officials from both sides is a good thing. Tough questions from a watchful eye prevents corruption and encourages competence. This isn’t a partisan perspective. It’s a principle so important to America’s founding, that’s it’s written into the 1st Amendment of the Constitution.

Middle East: Due to tensions in the Middle East, the security environment remains complex with the potential for unforeseen escalation. Americans currently in the Middle East should exercise heightened vigilance and be aware of potential flight cancellations, airspace closures, and travel disruptions. Iranian-supported Houthis have engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including civilian airports. This military conflict has the potential to escalate rapidly. Americans outside the Middle East should seriously reconsider travel to and through the region. Those who do travel to or from the region should monitor information about airport and airline operations. U.S. diplomatic facilities, including outside the Middle East, have been targeted. Iran and groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or at locations associated with the United States and Americans throughout the world, including U.S. businesses and other institutions.
