Tom Stoppard was my favourite playwright. He leaves us with a majestic body of intellectual and amusing work. I will always miss him.

Plays are dead, TV is dead, poetry is dead, movies are dead. All my entertainment comes from tweets and 30-90 second videos

His script for Shakespeare in Love made the film the gem it remains . “ I had that Christopher Marlowe in my boat once”

Lovely man Met him once at the @edfringe in 1995 where we were both performing at the @ARedinburgh and shared a dressing room We had the most lovely chats about the fact that you can’t copyright the name of a play or a film and was pointing out that our play called, The Interview, was also a play (with the same name) from the 1960’s He was there with his fellow Liverpool Poets, including Mr Mcgough (who we also had some great chats with) and it is one of my most cherished moments from my time as a theatre director Beautiful man He will be much missed

There are very very few geniuses in this era, Sir Tom was not only a genius, a polymath, gentleman and thoroughly decent charming man. If you met him, if for only a brief time, he inspired. The saying, ‘he will be truly missed’, is ever so true. RIP Sir Tom.

I always thought you two could pass for twins. I saw him once at NT and thought it was you until I overheard him introduced to someone. I won't say letdown because my happy was in a theatre.

I’m heartbroken. I met him several times (briefly) over the years. I absolutely loved Rock ‘n’ Roll, the latest play of his I’ve seen - it was of an era.

Two thoughts from a Czech & English playwright. His work often delved into the deeper philosophical bases of society…. “Look on every exit as being an entrance somewhere else.” “Eternity is a terrible thought. I mean, where's it going to end?” — Tom Stoppard (1937-2025)

Thanks, Mick, Tom was top notch, the best. Playwright for people who read and revel in intellectual pursuits. Maybe the best since Shakespeare? I think he might be.

🎭😢💔 Sorry for the loss of your friend. Our greatest living playwright is gone. Blessed to have performed in two of his works. Wish I’d met him. Dim the lights. Thank you for what you gave us Mr. Stoppard. “When we have found all the mysteries and lost all the meaning, we will be alone, on an empty shore.”—ARCADIA

Stoppard’s work was powerful. His plays could make you laugh or cry and then ask yourself, “Why?”. Well said, Sir Mick.
