Cold Case Awareness: Jay Durnil 11 year old Jay DURNIL was reported missing by his mother on April 29, 1976. Durnil left his mother’s residence (near Riverside Lakes) around 8 PM and biked to the Elkhorn River with his BB gun and dog, Tex. The dog returned to the residence later that evening, but Durnil did not. On May 3, 1976, Durnil's bike was discovered near the west bank of the Elkhorn River across from the Dodge Street Bridge. On May 19, 1976, Durnil's body was discovered in the Missouri River, 1 mile north of the Bellevue Bridge. Durnil's hands were bound behind his back with electrical cords. Durnil's cause of death was a fracture to the left side of his skull. Durnil's case was featured on an episode of the On Deck Podcast. That episode is linked in the thread. On March 22, 1998, Stacey Colbert disappeared from her apartment in Columbus, Ohio. Her personal belongings were left behind, and investigators found no signs of a struggle. Authorities believe she may have known the person responsible for her disappearance. More than 6 years later, her remains were found near the Scioto River. Stacey's murder remains #unsolved. Cold Case Awareness Month: Stephanie Caldwell Stephanie CALDWELL was last seen alive in the early morning hours of May 26, 1986. CALDWELL was known to frequent the downtown Omaha area, and may have been in the area of 24th and Farnam Streets prior to her disappearance. Individuals fishing the Elkhorn River located CALDWELL’s deceased body on June 2, 1986. The location on the river was about a half mile south of Q Street, near S 245th Street. It was apparent CALDWELL had been stabbed seven times with a knife.
