PSA for Women 35–50: I Really Wish Someone Had Told Me This Earlier…
Nobody warned me about this part of perimenopause, so I’m passing it on in case it helps somebody else.
I expected hot flashes.
I did not expect to wake up one day feeling like someone had quietly replaced me with an exhausted, foggy, irritated version of myself who suddenly needed a recovery period after basic errands.
I was tired. Moody. Foggy. Just OFF.
The thing I kept saying was:
“I don’t feel like myself.”
At least two doctors brought up SSRIs.
Thankfully, I have a great OB.
He’s also kind of a jerk. 😂
But he listens.
We talked through my symptoms, perimenopause, hormones and different options. Under his care, I chose hormone pellets.
For me, the difference has been enormous.
And I want to be very clear: I’m not selling anything. I’m not recommending pellets. I’m not saying what worked for me will work for you.
I’m saying I wish somebody had told me that perimenopause/menopause could feel like this and that it could be very early (I started at like 38-40)
That you can feel exhausted, foggy, emotional, irritable and disconnected from yourself enough that you genuinely start wondering what the hell happened to you.
So I’m telling you.
If something suddenly feels very different, talk to your doctor. Ask questions. Mention perimenopause. Ask what could be contributing and what your options are.
Maybe it’s hormones. Maybe it isn’t.
But I think women should at least know this is something worth asking about.
I got lucky and found someone who listened.
Consider this me passing the note to the woman sitting behind me.
