It seems leftists in BC think healthcare is fucking amazing. It’s a joke! Wait times are insane. Good luck seeing a specialist or getting an MRI in a reasonable amount of time.
A couple of years ago, my dad slipped in his shop and smashed his head off the counter. He thought he was fine until the migraine headaches started. By the time he went to the hospital, he had a major brain bleed.
I talked with the ER doctor, a great lady who was doing her best. She informed me that he needed to be transported to a bigger hospital because there was nothing they could do for him in the Kootenays.
I said, “Okay, what’s the plan?”
She said, “I want him flown by helicopter or plane. He’s going to die if we don’t get him to Kelowna within a day or two. But the administration is saying he’s going by ground ambulance.”
I said, “You’re shipping him eight hours in a bumpy ambulance?”
She said, “Yes. I don’t like it, but that’s what they told me.”
Thank God my uncle is an advanced life support paramedic and flight medic with BC Ambulance. I called him at 2 a.m. and explained what was going on and that they wanted to transport my dad by ground ambulance.
My uncle said, “Absolutely not. He’s getting airlifted. Whoever said he’s going by ground needs to be fired. He has a brain injury, not a broken arm.”
Three hours later, my dad was in an air ambulance on his way to Kelowna for brain surgery.
I talked with the surgeon after the operation. He said to me, “I know your uncle very well, and I’m glad you called him. There’s no doubt in my mind your dad would have died in the back of that ambulance. We’ll be escalating this to the top and addressing whoever made the original decision to transport him by ground.”
That’s my horror story of healthcare under the NDP. I’m sure there are tons of similar stories from around the province.
NDP healthcare has been a fucking disaster for British Columbians.
