That was said to me by one of my mentors shortly before he passed away. And I will never forget how subtle yet powerful that statement was. I started doing it with Minka back when we had that odd thing called COVID locked up in our house a couple years back. Can you even believe that happened? 🤷🏾‍♂️🤦🏾 @minkajaggerjohn was about five. We danced our way through it. She has grown so much since then. But we're still dancing. As we all struggle to find work life balance. At America’s Camp, Jerome Nedd, Jr. befriended the children of first responders who tried to save people like his father, Jerome O. Nedd, a chef at Windows on the World, on 9/11. These relationships, and his respect for responders’ actions, motivated him to pursue a career as an FDNY firefighter. “I know what it’s like to be one of those people who are having their worst day,” he recalled. “I want to…be a light for them.” Before 2006, Nedd was reluctant to join art projects at America’s Camp. Reflecting on his father’s death and the support he received at camp felt “overwhelming,” he recalled. But that summer, encouraged by his friends and the camp’s Artistic Director Traci Molloy, he created a feather that ultimately became part of “The Phoenix” sculpture, the centerpiece of our “In Their Honor: 25 Years of 9/11-Inspired Service” exhibition. As a generation comes of age with no lived memory of 9/11, the exhibition examines the enduring impact of service inspired by the attacks. Individuals and communities transformed grief into action, and their efforts touched lives across the country and around the globe.

September 15 through October 15 is recognized as Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to honor the rich history, vibrant cultures, and invaluable contributions of Hispanic communities. In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department hosted its 3rd Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration, embracing this year’s theme, “Unidos, Somos Más” — “Together, We Are More.” The theme reflects the strength found in unity, shared purpose, and the diverse experiences that enrich our Department and the communities we serve. Sheriff Robert G. Luna opened the celebration with welcoming remarks, followed by guest speaker Nathan Hochman and keynote speaker Oswaldo Borraez, an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning investigative journalist and former Univision 34 Los Angeles news anchor. The celebration also featured a live performance by Mariachi Mi Tierra and a reception bringing Department personnel and guests together in recognition of Hispanic heritage, culture, and community. Waves are battering the Jersey Shore as the nor’easter pushes water farther up the beach in Sea Bright, New Jersey. Eyewitness News reporter N.J. Burkett says the water had not yet reached the seawall ahead of high tide, as residents and business owners sandbagged their properties and prepared for possible flooding.

Today, the Dallas Police Department honored fallen officer, Senior Corporal Harold Franklin Baird, Jr. #6004, with a ceremonial street topper at the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Botham Jean Boulevard. On August 19, 2000, Senior Corporal Baird and his rookie officer were responding to an officer assist when their patrol vehicle was involved in a tragic collision. Senior Corporal Baird succumbed to injuries he sustained during the incident. Senior Corporal Baird was a dedicated public servant who made the ultimate sacrifice while answering the call to protect and serve the Dallas community. Chief Comeaux, members of the command staff and the Department, along with members of Senior Corporal Baird's family were in attendance for the unveiling.
