Too many Iowa families are facing a cancer diagnosis, and rural communities can’t afford to fall behind on early detection and treatment. That’s why, as a physician, I fought to secure the Rural Health Transformation Program. Now, $15.9 million of Iowa’s first $209 million is going toward cancer screenings, radon prevention, telehealth, and early detection in rural Iowa. Every Iowan deserves the best possible chance to catch cancer early and beat it.

It’s always an honor to meet with Iowa Gold Star Families and hear their stories of loved ones lost through military service and sacrifice. I’m grateful to listen to their experiences and for the opportunity to discuss how we can continue strengthening benefits, protections, and support for surviving families. They strongly urged Congress to pass the Take Care of America’s Veterans Act and deliver the support they earned.

As a 24-year Army veteran, it was wonderful meeting with women veterans participating in the Wounded Warrior Project’s 2026 Women Warriors Summit. We discussed how we can better support our veterans, from quality health care to economic opportunity and the resources they need to thrive.

Had a productive meeting with the Iowa Medical Society physicians to discuss the Patients First Act, Improving Seniors’ Timely Access to Care Act, and DOCTORS Act. We discussed ways to reduce unnecessary barriers, improve access to care, and support Iowa’s physicians and patients.

Great meeting with Iowa representatives from the @NSSGA, @NAPATweets, and NRMCA to discuss the importance of reliable materials and a strong workforce in building the infrastructure our communities depend on. We discussed improving the permitting system, promoting workforce development, and the need for Surface Transportation Reauthorization.

Enjoyed attending the Burlington Rotary Club meeting to discuss priorities for Southeast Iowa, including bringing down health care costs for Iowans and my continued investment in Southeast Iowa through Community Project Funding. It was also great to hear the community’s excitement about the $6.7 million DOD grant we helped them secure for a new fire station!

I believe neighborhoods should be places where families live, not just assets on a Wall Street balance sheet. That's why I helped lead the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, now law, to keep large institutional investors from buying up single-family homes in bulk. Iowa homes belong to Iowa families. 🇺🇸
