Chad Dixon on my staff recently met with Reservoir Patrol Chief Carlos DiPuma and two of his deputies, Jeff Wilson and Britney Black. The men and women of Reservoir Patrol are responsible for law enforcement, water patrols, and search and rescue across the Ross Barnett Reservoir. Thank you for protecting and serving our community.

Fun Fact Friday: As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence, I want to highlight some of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Heyward, Jr. was born in 1746 in South Carolina. Born into a prominent family, he studied in England. While studying abroad, he became aware of the English dislike of the American colonists. After returning to America, he joined the patriot cause, and at age 29 he was elected to the Second Continental Congress. On July 4th, over the objection of his father, he voted in favor of independence and signed the Declaration of Independence on August 2nd. During the Revolutionary War, Thomas was captured and held as a prisoner of war. He also lost a substantial portion of his assets which were seized by the British goverment. Thomas died in 1809 at the age of 62.

I was honored to speak at the Crime Stoppers USA 50th Anniversary Conference in Arlington, Virginia. During my time as District Attorney, I saw firsthand the role that Crime Stoppers plays in solving cold cases and bringing defendants to justice. I want to thank all those who serve in this great organization. Together, we will continue to make our communities safer places to raise a family.

Thank you to the Homeland Security and Defense Forum for the invitation to discuss the important work Congress is doing to secure the border. As Chairman of the Border Security Subcommittee, I appreciate the opportunity to engage with our industry partners as we work together to strengthen border security, innovate technologies, and give our frontline personnel the tools and resources to keep Americans safe.

Jimmie Nichols on my staff attended the Walthall County Republican Women meeting for September. He shared an update on the work Republicans have done to lower taxes, secure the border, fight waste and fraud, and support rural healthcare.

The Southwest border remains secure. New @CBP data shows that the Trump administration’s strong enforcement and @HouseGOP’s support have resulted in historically low illegal crossings, a decrease in drug smuggling across our Southwest border, and zero paroles of illegal aliens into the country by the U.S. Border Patrol. This Committee will always support the men & women of @DHSgov who work tirelessly to ensure this success continues.

Nick Hall on my staff met with Dr. Alicia Conerly with the National Science Teaching Association (NSTA). Dr. Conerly has taught school in Mississippi since 2006 and recently served as the principal at the Monticello Elementary School.

Thank you to the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network for stopping by my office. Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States, and Congress must continue to help fund cancer research and the development of new treatments.

Nick Hall on my staff visited TVA’s Sequoyah Nuclear Plant outside of Chattanooga. This facility is home to 760 employees, and the plant generates 2,400 megawatts - enough to power 1.3 million homes across the Valley. The Tennessee Valley Authority fully or partially supplies electric power to 36 counties in Mississippi.

September is National Chicken Month. Mississippi is home to more than 1,500 poultry and broiler farms, supporting over 30,000 jobs across our state, and home to the largest egg producer and distributor in the nation. I am grateful for our poultry farmers and the important role they play in Mississippi’s economy and communities.

Brady Stewart on my staff attended the ribbon cutting for Smallcakes in Gluckstadt. Madison County continues to expand its growth of small businesses, and we are glad that Smallcakes has chosen to call Gluckstadt home.

As the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Border Security and Enforcement, I want to highlight some of the dangerous individuals captured by the Department of Homeland Security. It is my goal to keep you updated on the great work our men and women in law enforcement are doing to keep our communities safe.

Kyle Jordan and Brady Stewart on my staff joined other representatives of the federal delegation in attending the Mississippi Business Alliance (MSBA) General Assembly. I am thankful for the impact that MSBA has on economic growth and workforce development.

Our franchised automobile and truck dealers are an important part of our state’s economy, supporting thousands of jobs and serving communities across Mississippi.

William Hooper was known as the “Prophet of Independence” for his early comments about building an empire apart from Great Britain. Born in Boston, he was educated at Harvard and then moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, to practice law. Growing his law practice and influence, he was elected to the Provincial Congress Assembly in 1773. He was then among the first members selected to represent North Carolina at the Continental Congress. Absent when the Declaration was voted on in July of 1776, William signed the document on August 2nd, 1776.

I am honored to announce that Jacob Lee is interning in my Washington, D.C., office this fall. Jacob is from Enterprise, Mississippi. He graduated from the University of Mississippi with a degree in political science, and Jacob would like to continue working in politics in Jackson after his internship.

Chad Dixon on my staff met with Deep South AI Solutions owners Bobby Guillory and Josh Ogden at the Pearl Chamber of Commerce. Deep South AI Solutions is a Mississippi-based company, dedicated to helping small businesses use automation and technology to grow.

I was honored to attend the Raytheon Forest ribbon cutting. Raytheon completed a 17,000-square-foot expansion of its manufacturing facility, which is expected to create 100 new high-skill jobs by 2028. This investment will support our national defense and the soldiers who fight for freedom across the globe.
