Twitter account for former-U.S. Senator Pat Toomey. Husband. Father.

I’m very sorry to learn of the passing of former Sen. Jon Kyl, a thoughtful conservative and a great senator. Most importantly, he was a good, kind and decent man. I hope his passing will encourage reflection on the kind of political leadership that America needs.

Great piece in @FortuneMagazine by @coinbase’s @johnjdagostino and @RegionsBank’s Chris Kennedy about the opportunity that stablecoins offer to community banks. New technology can level the playing field - giving smaller banks access to faster payments, global settlement and modern treasury services that once required the scale of the largest institutions. That means more tools to serve their customers, compete and grow. CLARITY builds on this opportunity by giving banks the legal tools to participate in the digital financial system - one more reason for the Senate to vote yes next week. fortune.com/2026/09/12/commu…

I was saddened to learn of the passing of Jim Martin, Lehigh County’s long-serving District Attorney. Jim was a great DA, committed to the safety of LV residents and a good, honest and decent man. My condolences go to his surviving family that he loved.

1/ The editorial page of the WSJ is usually a great defender of free markets and economic competition.  It’s a shame to see them take the side of regulatory protectionism in their op-ed on the CLARITY Act.

5/ These are the risks for which capital and prudential regulations are imposed on banks. Stablecoin issuers are prohibited by law from taking those risks. Under the GENIUS Act, they must keep 100% of cash from stablecoin sales in cash or cash equivalents like US treasury bills.

6/6 No maturity mismatch.  No credit risk.  No reason to regulate them like banks even if they were allowed to pay interest to their customers.  The innovators should be allowed to compete.

Patrick McHenry is absolutely right. Congress needs to pass the Clarity Act. And before the August break.
For over two decades in Congress, I saw how bold, forward-looking legislation can move our country ahead, and how outdated rules leave us scrambling to catch up. The Clarity Act is Congress’s chance to be proactive: establish consumer protections, provide regulatory certainty and give entrepreneurs the confidence to build. As I write in Fortune, Congress can seize the moment & break the cycle of reactive regulation. Now is our chance.

I’m still shocked at the loss of my friend Lindsey Graham. Our nation will miss his passionate, effective commitment to America’s leadership in the defense of freedom.

A quick note on U.S. crypto ownership & usage. Estimates vary based on who is asking and how. The @federalreserve focuses on recent usage, while independent polls track ownership.Bottom line: all credible data points to tens of millions of Americans engaging with crypto. • The Fed's latest 2025 SHED data puts past-12-month crypto use at ~10% of U.S. adults (26–27M people). • A @MorningConsult poll (for @coinbase) found 20% (~52M) currently own crypto. • @Ipsos polling found ~18% have owned or used it. Whether you measure active use or ownership, these numbers are substantial—not fringe.

Gov’t shouldn’t complicate what the market already does well. These interchange fee bills in PA and DE could disrupt payments for consumers, create new burdens for small businesses, and make earning tips harder. Read my newest op-ed in @PhillyInquirer:bit.ly/4suM2Gw

The @USOCC's conditional approval of @coinbase's national trust charter is a landmark moment. Enormous thanks to @USComptroller Jonathan Gould and his team for their diligent review of our application and the fair application of the law. coinbase.com/blog/coinbase-r…
