To be fair the Chagos 'deal' really is the dumbest deal of all time: - betraying a native people - to give away land you own - land you vitally need for defence - giving it to randoms - who have no legal claim - who hate you, hate the natives and love China AND PAYING. 🤡🤡🤡

Scrap the 🏝️Chagos deal. The deal is the problem. Former Prime Minister 👨‍⚖️Starmer and his close friend and colleague, Attorney General 👨‍⚖️ Hermer, decided they were going to give away Chagos. They didn't tell the public, the press or Parliament before or during the 2024 General Election that they intended to give away sovereign British territory. The Labour manifesto did not mention Chagos, but it did promise to protect the British Overseas Territories (BOT). 🕵️Jonathan Powell was hired in secret as Starmer's special Chagos envoy. No one knows when, or if Powell had any security clearance, because Starmer refuses to answer those questions, even at PMQs. It's known Powell used his private company email for Chagos business for at least a month before his appointment was officially announced. The lead counsel for Mauritius since 2010 was 👨‍⚖️Philippe Sands, another close long-time friend and legal colleague of Starmer and Hermer. Sands gained an advisory-only, non-binding 🏛️International Court of Justice Ruling in 2019 that Chagos should be given to Mauritius. Starmer and Hermer made a conscious decision to abide by the ICJ ruling, despite it being advisory and non-binding, and that giving Chagos to Mauritius was against the wishes of the vast majority of the Chagossian people, who want Chagos to remain British. Starmer and Hermer also made the decision to accept the ICJ ruling knowing it threatened the security and effectiveness of the extremely important joint 🪖UK/US military base on Diego Garcia. Hermer told a high-profile UN conference in January this year that the UK government accepted the "compulsory jurisdiction of the ICJ", as it is the world's apex court. Starmer tried to rush the deal through the Commons and House Of Lords and make it an Act Of Parliament. However, people instinctively knew a deal where you give another country your sovereign territory and pay them £billions for the privilege🦨tinks. And sure enough, over time the huge flaws in the deal, and the negative and extraordinarily expensive consequences of the deal have been exposed. There's no fixing it. Only lunatics, or the deeply compromised, would even think of trying to complete the deal now. Starmer and Hermer's deal must be consigned to history, and the Chagos Archipelago must remain British.

There is something incredibly suspicious about the Labour Party’s fixation on surrendering the Chagos Islands. First Starmer and now Burnham. It makes absolutely no sense unless the government is dancing to someone else’s tune. Has China bought the entire Labour Party?

Trump is right. The Chagos deal is “terrible and ridiculous”. So why is the UK spending £30 billion to “give” the islands to Mauritius Colonial guilt? Corruption? It stinks.

😡 “I think it’s RIDICULOUS!” Trump slams the Chagos deal while Burnham sits there squirming. Asked about it at the UN, Trump didn’t mince words: “I don’t support it. I think it’s a terrible deal. I think it’s ridiculous.” Then he said why it matters: “It’s strategically very important. It’s amazing how strategic it is. I think the Prime Minister is going to be looking at it.” Burnham just sat there looking incredibly uncomfortable and nodded “yes”. He’s not going to look at it. His Defence Minister was doing the media rounds this morning saying nothing has changed. Trump finished by again emphasising just how important this military base is: “It’s a very, very strategic location. It’s unique. It’s a very important piece of real estate, militarily and strategically.” That’s Diego Garcia. A vital UK-US base. The deal hands the islands to Mauritius and then leases the base back at a cost of tens of billions over the life of the lease. In a more dangerous world, with China rising, that is madness. Keep the islands. Keep the base. Scrap the deal!
