A week later he paused new oil and gas leases on federal land and water. Kamala Harris had already said, on September 4, 2019, "There's no question I'm in favor of banning fracking." In March 2024 the EPA issued tailpipe rules designed to force most new cars and light trucks toward electric or hybrid by 2032. Gavin Newsom signed the California order to ban the sale of new gasoline cars by 2035. Other blue states lined up behind it. They spent years treating American oil like a moral problem and American drivers like an inconvenience. Then they act shocked when the price board lights up and families have to choose between a tank and a grocery run. You cannot choke off supply for a decade and then campaign as the cheap-gas party. The policy was the point. Higher prices at the pump were the tool. A party that shuts pipelines, restricts leases, and tries to retire the combustion engine is not fighting for cheap gas. It is fighting for control of how you move. When Democrats scream about gas prices, remember this. High gas prices are temporary. Communism is forever.
