🩸🩸🩸TODAY WE SHARE TWO MAJOR DISCOVERIES🩸🩸🩸
1. We peered into genomes and brains of rare mosquitoes that QUIT feeding on blood and found what biting is built from
2. Humans got rid of isoleucine in their blood, malaria suffers from it, and mosquito proteomes budget for it
We found an adrenergic iron–MSRA axis that regulates methionine redox signaling and adipose browning. Disrupting MSRA preserved tissue mass and prolonged survival in tumor-bearing mice. Huge congrats to Jung Seung Nam, who led this work! nature.com/articles/s43018-0…
Thrilled to share I’ve joined @YaleCellBio as an Assistant Professor after an incredible postdoc in the @KivancBirsoy Lab at @RockefellerUniv.
Excited to launch the Liu Lab website: shanshanliulab.com/, built by @oopslabai.
Thank you for bringing our lab vision to life!
As we approach the six-month mark since opening our doors, I'm excited to share our lab website and introduce our team at @SinaiHeartBlood@IcahnMountSinai. Check out what we've been up to and reach out if you're interested in joining us or collaborating! timothyckennylab.com
I'm excited to announce I'll be starting the Kaji lab at @MountSinaiPsych in July. The lab will employ multiomic (snRNAseq, snATACseq, and spatial transcriptomics) and electrophysiology study brain development and disease. Grateful for all the help along the way!
Our new work by @shanshanliu1218 and @gadmark addresses a fundamental question: how does ER maintain its unique oxidizing environment, while rest of the cell is reducing? Here, we identify SLC33A1 as the major ER GSSG exporter in mammalian cells. nature.com/articles/s41556-0…
Excited to share that my PhD work on ER mito contact sites is finally out at @MolecularCell! Big shout out to @stark2_d to take this across the finish line, and @YatrikShahLab and @LyssiotisLab for their guidance as always!
Honored to be named a 2025 Pew-Stewart Scholar for Cancer Research. Grateful for the support and excited for the science ahead!

Thrilled to announce that I will be joining the Cardiovascular Research Institute at @IcahnMountSinai as an Assistant Professor in January! My laboratory will focus on nutrient transport and cellular metabolism in physiology and disease.
My lab's first paper is out in @Nature. We show that lipoprotein uptake protects tumors from ferroptosis by delivering the lipid antioxidant α-tocopherol. Surprisingly, tumors use sulfated glycosaminoglycans—not canonical receptors—to capture lipoproteins. nature.com/articles/s41586-0…
Feel privileged to have had a front row seat to this amazing story by @EriDalla @JAguirreGhiso and colleagues focused on understanding the microenvironmental determinants of cancer cell colonization at metastatic sites with important implications for therapy. Congrats to all!
I am thrilled to share that our recent study on the development of a metabolic gene function discovery platform is now online on Nature Genetics. nature.com/articles/s41588-0….
