Labor's Censorship Laws Will Damage Advertising Revenue Fun watching Laura Jayes stumble over the fact that online platforms are media sites too. Turning off their algorithms will most likely damage their advertising streams. Anika Wells pauses for thought; she had no clue. Media outlets blindly supporting Anika Wells' Digital Duty of Care, as they did with the under-16s Social Media ban, are shooting themselves in the foot.

Anika Wells makes Katy Gallagher look like a genius. The Labor DEI push has failed Australia. Badly.

Wells has that same dumb poker face she had when questioned about her considerable travel rorts. That inept Gender Quota Hire should be in prison.

I wasn’t aware the eSafety Commission were “technical experts” who decide what counts as harm 🤨 I thought the legislation didn’t give the Minister or eSafety Commissioner independent, large-scale scientific capacity to prove causal harm from algorithms or to make new value judgments about what society should treat as harmful. Those judgments were to remain political and legislative (which she mentioned, but it seemed contradictory given the Minister’s previous comment about who determines what is harm). I’m not confident they can keep up this facade. Feels like they keep digging a deeper hole and now they’re in too deep to go back.

I was thinking about this the other day. What if the government decides that promoting an idea is harmful and must be blocked? It means that every single service or item on sites like Amazon that may inadvertently promote the same idea must also be blocked. That's the problem with vague generalisations about 'harmful' when the definition is open to the government's ad hoc decisions about what might be harmful.

Wells is an idiot -there is no way she can censor the global internet -all our govt can do is try and get platforms to Implement geoblocking which a vpn can get around but I suspect the next step will be to block vpns

Being vague to cover their real agenda- target & silence certain groups & individuals, political parties they don’t like & conservative news outlets. They will judge their opponents that they deem “harmful” to god knows who, in the public, in this nonsensical reasoning they give.

@AnikaWells demonstrating how stupid she really is! @AustralianLabor have openly said they would prefer that Australians only get their news from the @abcnews ! These new laws will ensure that happens.

How do we let people this stupid make the rules. So drunk on their power with 0 understanding of how this works. We are truly screwed. It maybe they are geniuses though. Great way to bully and censor your way to absolute control of what you want people to see!

Wouldn't that be some sweet schadenfreude if they sue her for lost earnings, which is a very real prospect? Something to ponder online sites...? It means she'd have to go to extreme lengths to prove that it is "harm", and can't just be the political targeting she wants.

When it some down to it, it has to be for the $$$$, because the government as a whole can’t stop spending they have to get money from somewhere. What’s better than getting the social media companies to be fined $100’s of millions and censor the public for their agenda in the same hit??

Easiest thing for the platforms to do would be block all politicians from Australia. We don’t want them on here anyway. It is them invading us with their BS and bickering constantly.
