Yesterday it was Discord profiling your social graph. Today it's Google going through your search history and YouTube watching habits to do the same thing. And they're both calling it "privacy-preserving." ✨
In all fairness, they're not collecting new data. They're using what they've already got and they just want you to know.
If Google's model decides you're a teenager: adult apps on Google Play are off-limits, YouTube has opinions about when you should go to bed, and more.
And if it gets you wrong? Please hand over your government ID or get your face scanned. Because apparently it takes more of your data to correct a mistake they made with your data.
Again, privacy-preserving 🙂

Developers are currently testing while playing games all within the new Vector Widescreen Desktop client. It is still in the early stages, as there is more to refine for audio quality and privacy, but stay tuned for more!

Not an easy route, but we believe it should be the base standard. Let people have the freedom to choose what best fits their needs and solves their direct problems. Give them full access to see under the hood and high-level customization in terms of UX, yet not forced on the user to have to understand the complexity of the tech.

Not only is KYC a security and privacy risk, it is also a burden on the user experience. Believe it or not, Vector solved this issue by simply not implementing it.
We recommend developers do the same...
Don't implement a suboptimal system with an unnecessary point of failure.

As if you needed more reason to distrust the entire idea of KYC… service phished into handing over their client’s personal information. The absolute irony, yet not a laughing matter.
No one will protect your data but you, start there. Self-sovereignty and accountability now.
⚠️ ALERT: Revolut falls for a FAKE government request, exposing sensitive personal information of customers in a disturbing data breach.
Revolut disclosed that it complied with a fraudulent government request using a spoofed official email and valid credentials, exposing PII belonging to a group of customers.
The leaked data reportedly includes passports/driving licences, verification selfies, names, DOBs, occupations, home addresses, emails, phone numbers, IBANs, account statements and full transaction histories, including Bitcoin activity.
No customer funds were reportedly lost and Revolut says its systems were not hacked.
The company has notified affected users and regulators and blocked the source.
Social-engineering attacks are on the rise, with attackers increasingly exploiting human trust and weak verification processes rather than technical vulnerabilities.
