Astronaut, physician, and former Navy SEAL Jonny Kim has left NASA after nearly a decade to continue his service in the U.S. Navy. Kim, a lieutenant commander, will spend the remainder of his military career working in naval aviation training. He became a dual-designated naval aviator and flight surgeon after previously serving with SEAL Team Three on more than 100 combat operations as a medic, sniper, navigator, and point man. Kim was selected as a NASA astronaut in 2017 and spent eight months aboard the International Space Station in 2025, orbiting the Earth 3,920 times and traveling nearly 104 million miles. He also holds a mathematics degree from the University of San Diego and a medical degree from Harvard Medical School.

I’d watch my friends pass away and kept thinking, “i want to live so badly, i want to go home.” 💬: still, i kept walking through the endless dark, at my own pace, in my own way, step by step, i began to see the light 🦌: the treatment process wasn’t easy, but when i saw how my mom took care of me nonstop, i wanted to put on a brave face for her 💬: the world i returned to was still hazy 🦌: thankfully i made it through treatment and got to go on with my life, but fitting back in with my friends wasn’t easy. i had a lot less energy, and since my hair was still growing back from chemo, i got teased a lot for it 💬: but with music my world gradually began to fill with colors 🦌: i wanted to use the start of my music under the name EVAN to tell people that good days do eventually come around. when i sing on “death of me” the lead single, that this “ain’t the death of me,” it comes from a place of having actually gone right up to the edge of death myself. no matter how far down i went, i felt over and over that it was never really the end. i hope EVER hears that message and finds some hope in it
