Face aux violences du 17 octobre, chacun a déjà trouvé son précédent : gilets jaunes, émeutes de 2005, mai 68. C’est rassurant. C’est peut-être aussi ce qui nous empêche de voir ce qui s’y joue de nouveau. Deux pièges rendent l’inédit difficile à reconnaître. Le premier est le biais de continuité. La plupart des crises passent, alors on suppose que celle-ci passera aussi. Il est d’autant plus fort chez les dirigeants expérimentés, qui ont appris qu’on finit par s’en sortir. Le second est l’enfermement dans l’analogie. Chacun choisit le précédent qui confirme son modèle. Chaque analogie éclaire une partie de la situation, aucune ne saisit l’ensemble, et chacune dicte une réponse qui ne vaut que pour sa partie.
