After a very productive meeting today with President Trump on a variety of issues, he greenlit the bipartisan Russia sanctions bill that I have been working on for months with Senator Blumenthal and many others. This will be well-timed, as Ukraine is making concessions for peace and Putin is all talk, continuing to kill the innocent. This bill will allow President Trump to punish those countries who buy cheap Russian oil fueling Putin’s war machine. This bill would give President Trump tremendous leverage against countries like China, India and Brazil to incentivize them to stop buying the cheap Russian oil that provides the financing for Putin’s bloodbath against Ukraine. I look forward to a strong bipartisan vote, hopefully as early as next week.

BREAKING: Opposition leader @Helenkhosh was subjected to physical abuse and inhuman, degrading treatment after her detention, which is prohibited under the European Convention on Human Rights, Article 3 (prohibition of torture), and which, sadly, reflects the systemic violence against the unlawfully imprisoned protesters in Georgia. Elene breaks her silence in an effort to encourage others to speak up, and to convey to the people how others, less experienced persons can be intimidated and abused after detention. Police officers Nino Chkhartishvili and Davit Bolotashvili tied her hands back in handcuffs and hit her in her jaw and teeth. This was at a police station on Ramishvili. Later, at the Dighomi Temporary Accommodation Center (a pre-trial detention center), policewomen Nino Chkhartishvili, Salome Lashkhia and an unnamed one again held Elene’s hands on her back and fully undressed her against her will. We request and expect adequate assessment and condemnation by the friends of Georgia and our international partners!
