This is a good critique observing the real time contradictions playing out around electoralism with DSA and Mamdani. But too often folks frame this as individual blame (selling out) or in this post as not doing electoralism right. But we are missing is… 1/
Feels like there is a severe lack of political education around electoralism right now. If electoralism is your strategy, and I understand the argument for using elections tactically , shouldn’t the point be to bring people into a larger movement? To expose and heighten contradictions, organize people, and move them toward a broader anti-imperialist politics? Instead, it feels like the opposite is happening. People with revolutionary anti-imperialist politics are being told to temper those politics in order to defend politicians. Even if your entire strategy is electoral, why wouldn’t you want a strong left flank pushing your politicians and their constituents further left? Why wouldn’t you want people outside electoral politics taking the uncompromising position, especially on Palestine, so that there is constant pressure on the people operating within those institutions? The movement shouldn’t be adjusting its politics to whatever its most progressive elected officials are willing to say or do. They should be getting pushed toward us. Not the other way around. This doesn’t happen in private meetings, this happens publicly. Electoralism can be a tactic within a larger movement. But once the movement starts disciplining its own left flank to protect an electoral project, who is actually absorbing who? Maybe this site is just giving me a distorted picture but it feels like some very basic anti-imperialist positions are treated as unreasonable because they create problems for politicians people are invested in. If this is reflective of a broader shift in the movement, then I think we desperately need political education around electoralism. Electoral politics should be one terrain on which a movement struggles. It should not become the ceiling of the movement’s politics. The direction should be electoral politics moves people towards movement politics, not movement politics requiring electoral loyalty.

NYCYDSA doing what NYCDSA refuses to do and hold Zohran Mamdani accountable for his repeated blunders on Palestine. Good on them.
THREE YEARS OF GENOCIDE. THREE YEARS OF RESISTANCE. 📍 New York City Hall 🗓️ October 7, 2026 ⏰ 4:00pm October 7th marks three years of the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people, one of the deadliest ongoing and globally broadcasted massacres in modern history. October 7th marks three years since resistance against imperialism changed the fate of our world forever. In New York City, Mayor Zohran Mamdani campaigned on promises to the Palestine movement. He has betrayed his own alleged values, failing to make those promises a reality. Instead, he has repeatedly capitulated to zionist pressure: Criminalizing protests against the sale of stolen Palestinian land in New York City through the passage of the NYC Council Bill Intro 1-B; allowing the NYPD to surveil, arrest, and violently suppress protests against these illegal land sales; and most recently, pledging $26 million tax dollars to the “Strategy to Combat Anti-Semitism“ which will provide funding for zionist propagandist groups such as JCRC-NY; and security infrastructure for zionist synagogues which host illegal real estate sales of stolen Palestinian land to expand settlements. The Mayor’s claim of solidarity with the Palestinian people is meaningless when it is followed by no action and capitulation to zionist pressure. 🇵🇸 Join us on October 7th at 4pm outside City Hall to hear the student movement's demands to the Mayor of New York City, one of two institutional authorities over the CUNY Board of Trustees. 🇵🇸 Join us to honor our martyrs, prisoners, and liberators, and to remind New York City that we will not rest until the complete liberation of the Palestinian people.

What workers and tenant organizers did in a week was more effective than decades of power-building inside the political system. Reform is designed to trap and wear out any energy for change so it can be effectively neutralized. Don’t give them that chance
notice that it is the self-organized tenants in Spain who just brought down the government, is undermining the voting base of the rightist parties and advancing a socialist popular politics, not the left parties... building power outside of the confines of electoralism is key

Disagreed. Marxists give a huge list of different reasons, all of which boil down to idealism; that state actors simply made the wrong decisions. By contrast, anarchists give the materialist analysis: power structures have certain imperatives that transcend individual ideas.

People dont realise that 90% of anti riot tactics is literally pretending that 10 policemen are capable of dispensing hundreds of protesters. If you shatter that illusion most times the whole scheme folds completely

Zohran Mamdani’s recent plan to combat antisemitism has been met with notable criticism from the Palestine solidarity space. When you look under the hood at where most of the sourcing for data in the plan and the beneficiaries of it, it’s easy to see why. Very easy. 🔗 below.

It's insane how chummy AOC, Zohran, and Piker were with Mahmoud Khalil when it was politically expedient. Now, Betar, a far-right group of open terror supporters who have been forcefully disbanded by AG James, commit this hate crime and it's radio silence from "the Left"
Jewish supremacists stormed a book event in Morningside Heights featuring Mahmoud Khalil and assaulted staff!

A reminder that DSALA took questions regarding whether candidates support BDS, or will accept “educational trips to Israel” off of their candidate questionnaire this election year.

See if I were mayor of a city which had a police force that was uncovered to be sending undercovers/informants to run intelligence operations against people fundraising for victims of genocide I’d probably fire my head of police and shake up the department. That’s just me though.
The NYPD is sending undercovers and/or informants online to pretend to be interested in donating to Gaza to start conversations with Palestinians inside Gaza and in the U.S.

This is complete BS. If members of the Palestinian diaspora in NYC were sending hundreds of millions directly to Hamas they would *literally* go to federal prison. They would 100% be held responsible for the actions of Hamas. But members of the Jewish diaspora in NYC can hold land auctions and fundraisers and run countless nonprofits to benefit every single aspect of the Israeli government and Israeli society as they commit a genocide and ethnically cleanse Gaza and the West Bank and we’re just all supposed to pretend like they bear no responsibility whatsoever for Israel’s actions? Gimme a break.
Zohran Mamdani: One of the things that I'm proud of is that we live in the most Jewish city in the United States of America. No Jewish person in New York City is responsible for the actions of the state of Israel. If you want to hold anybody accountable, it's the people who are making those decisions — the prime minister, the state of Israel, also our complicity as American taxpayers, given that we know how many billions of dollars we have sent in bombs and continue to send.

thats not what socialism means, those are just basic functions of government. what he's doing is redefining socialism to fit within the bounds of liberalism. filling potholes is great but thats not socialism dog thats just what a mayor is supposed to do
Zohran Mamdani explains his definition of socialism to Theo Von: “Socialism to me means you’ll have whatever you need to live a dignified life and that it is the government’s job to deliver on that. When people say dignity we’re talking about the things that allow you to take a breath. Housing, childcare, public transit. No one should be priced out of these things. These are non-negotiables, you need these to live”

While Mamdani’s team continues to post cute pr fluff, his NYPD commissioner is targeting Palestinian humanitarian fundraising/mutual aid and Arab/Muslim Americans who support it. This is the context in which the Mayor’s racist ‘antisemitism task force’ needs to be understood.
Coordinated arrests and charges dismantle Hamas terror finance network raising funds from the United States: “The close cooperation of law enforcement and prosecutors’ offices to dismantle Alzaq’s alleged Hamas financing network demonstrates our commitment to depriving Hamas of the funding it relies on in Gaza and to commit terror attacks like the brutal October 7, 2023, massacre of more than a thousand innocent victims, including dozens of Americans,” said U.S. Attorney Jamie McDonald. @TheJusticeDept @EDLAnews @USAO_MDFL @NewYorkFBI @NYPDnews justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/coo…
