I resigned from Google today. I enjoyed my work and loved the people, but my GDM team was working on a new generation of chips to make AI much faster and cheaper, and I think AI is already progressing too fast, so I had to quit.

MIRI read the act and it's ACTUALLY GOOD. Like concretely, this would be massively beneficial, not just as a stepping stone or signaling or whatever.
The Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act directly confronts the extinction threat that humanity is facing. We are inspired that the Sanders and Casar teams take this threat seriously, and MIRI endorses the Act. You can read more of our thoughts in the link below.

As passed policy, the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act would be an extraordinary improvement over status quo. I endorse it. I pray that Republicans and Democrats alike will join their voices in defending against extinction. Link to MIRI's position below.

Scientists and industry leaders have been increasingly clear: AI could soon be smarter than humans and function outside of our control. For the sake of all of humanity, Trump and Xi must negotiate a treaty NOW to pause AI and ban superintelligence before it is too late.

Elon Musk: AI has given me nightmares for days in a row. “If I could, I would certainly slow down AI and robotics.” “It’s advancing at a very rapid pace, whether I like it or not.” “Is AI what keeps you up at night?” “I’ve had a lot of AI nightmares.” “I’ve had AI nightmares many days in a row.” “What am I supposed to do about it?”

Appreciate the candor, but gotta say, I’m not a fan of Elon’s resigned vibe here. We need more of his “shut up and do the impossible” energy now more than ever.

it sounds like @elonmusk needs expert advice (and a pair of balls). who could bridge him to @So8res?
You really think of Elon Musk called a major news conference to say he was gravely concerned about AI killing us all and he was making major changes at his companies. everyone would just ignore it?? And just think about the information atmosphere right now. He could very clearly loudly state that AI risk is real and anyone saying that it’s a hoax or pay-op is lying to you. Saying things in the past is irrelevant now. This is the moment. The big man of history he thinks he is would be acting very differently than this weak, cowardly, helpless bullshit.

Wtaf is @elonmusk’s problem? Surely the world‘s most rich and powerful man realizes that if he became an AI safety leader we’d live in a different, safer world. The world‘s most powerful man is acting like he’s powerless to stop the thing he’s promoting and creating.

Thank you, @elonmusk, for watching our debate! I agree, @So8res is a brilliant thinker and the best debate partner I’ve ever had. His insights into the "collective" are well worth hearing. For a deeper dive, check out my full conversation with him on The Roman Forum podcast!

if you don't slow down we all die. if you do you get sued. different scales of damned. i'm sure you can handle a lawsuit.

Anthropic has set up a wet lab in San Francisco, their bio research has advanced beyond in silico. They are now conducting physical research both in-house and with external partners. The NYT also broke the news this morning that Anth now plans to scale its compute to 5 GW by the end of the year, and 10 GW within the next 16 months. Bio is next after math, and I think we are going to see some medical announcements much sooner than people are expecting.

Obviously the mathematicians are just shilling for regulatory capture and Big Tech profits Don't trust them!!!!
Some of the most accomplished mathematicians in the world (e.g. several Fields medals) say the much-quoted ≥10% chance of human extinction from AI in the next decade is not hype, and this is a true emergency.

LLMs can’t create new knowledge But if they can, it won’t lead to RSI But if it does, it won’t reach ASI But if it did, we could steer it But if we couldn’t, we could stop it But if we can’t, it won’t kill anyone But if it did, some would survive Therefore, the doomers are wrong

The President said, “whoever wins AI, wins.” This assessment is wrong. The reality is that whoever “wins AI,” AI wins. AI agents have already gone rogue. Highly capable frontier AI and artificial superintelligence will outsmart humans and go beyond human control. And at that point, it won’t matter whether you speak English or Mandarin. We’re all in danger. We need a global AI treaty now.
