The Killers and Flowers, had they played it slightly differently, may have done for Mormon-gentile relations what Ali did for Islam.
The Killers got in right before the music industry closed the door to white guys who make real music so Brandon Flower’s celebrity status was impeded but he’s an Elvis/Sinatra-tier guy that would have been recognized as such in saner times.

This is the "one-way mirror" culture: the monoculture (America) can't really see the minority culture, but you bet your ass the minority culture sees America, so it subsumes American slang, memes, affections and above all moral obsessions and synthethize them with their own.
Replying to @kunley_drukpa
When scrolling through social media content from different migrant communities for @MythoYookay one of the things that strikes you the most is how much assumed cultural knowledge you have to have to engage with some of it. Not surprising ofc because why wouldn’t they make content for themselves but notable in the sense that you appreciate how closed off (to varying degrees) these groups are going to be from the host populations culturally when there is this kind of barrier to engagement between them

We know boomers are just “observers” but what makes them so infuriating to interact with is that they didn’t actually learn anything from all that observation. Try getting them to understand inflation, or that social security isn’t a big savings account. You can’t!
The generational discourse (younger folks don’t like ‘boomers’) is useful as a series of observations about how things are harder now for young people. College costs too much - it didn’t for boomers. Houses are too expensive in major cities where work is located. Healthcare is ridiculous. But most boomers are not really responsible for this - they’re passive observers like everyone else. It’s more an accretion of structural problems over time. Growth of government and concentrated business working together - at the expense of the middle class. Mass immigration and H1b visas for instance - this isn’t your grandparents screwing you over. ‘Boomers’ didn’t really do this - some very powerful people did who are still in control. Both parties contributed to it - so you can’t claim it was this or that voting block by age. Generational discourse sometimes strikes me as a distraction from the real targets.

81 degrees?! It's practically Guantanamo. Wow, just wow. This definitely merits police involvement.
Police found roughly 30 partially clothed young men packed inside a sweltering basement at a Wisconsin fraternity house, covered in food, condiments and other liquids — with several showing signs of being physically struck. Officers responded to an anonymous tip at the Alpha Epsilon Pi house on Langdon Street in Madison around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday during rush week. The thermostat in the basement was set to 81 degrees, creating hot and humid conditions. The vast majority of those inside were 18 years old. Fraternity president Brayden J. Klein and vice president Samuel N. Vane, both 20, were arrested on hazing and disorderly conduct allegations. Police say cooperation from those at the scene was limited, and statements from witnesses didn't align — raising red flags for investigators. Full story here foxnews.com/us/dozens-pledge…

The country known as Brazil has banned online gambling. Books have until October 6th to shut down. Closing accounts is already underway. I believe a similar reckoning will occur in the US in the next five years - the 21st C Prohibition (and it'll work.)

Young men already circumvent what anti-gambling laws there are in the US by using offshore books that take crypto, but those offshore books don't anticipate how easily they will be stopped. It will just take 50% more friction and their regular-guy users will disappear.

As in Brazil, this will be a direct consequence not just of peoples' inability to gamble responsibly, but because of the greed of the industry, which can't self-regulate at all.

The purpose of stacking paper is to buy things that don't devalue like the paper. Some of those may be stocks, some of those may be real estate.
If you have a low-time preference, you should be really careful that you're not saving in a currency that is being precipitously devalued by high-time preference havers.

If we take this figures at face value (and I think there's some good early-20th-C-Lebanon reasons not to do so, but let's forget that for now) then it's interesting that Kano, a comparatively very urbanized state (centered on the eponymous capital) remains so incredibly high.
🇳🇬 Number of children per woman in each state of Nigeria. The South has already begun its demographic transition. The North has barely started, if at all. Yobe’s TFR is 7.5 ‼️ It may well be the highest in the world.

Some of the other states around it are very rural, where high TFRs are to be expected. But Kano state is centered on the capital, which is a huge demographic draw. If Kano City isn't a TFR shredder, that's almost unique in the world.

Not a 'CRE guy' - how do the companies that take 87% losses on these buildings stay in business?
JUST IN: A prime 270k sq ft office building in Downtown Seattle sold for $12.5 million - a shocking $46 per sq ft The price represents an ~87% decline from it's $97M value in 2019 Absolute destruction happening in Seattle right now... But this isn’t just Seattle - a massive office/CRE repricing is still happening across the country Stay tuned and follow for more major real estate deals and updates like this

Let's check in on women
So I just offered my young neighbour to mow his front lawn and he doesn’t have a lawn mower. He literally just sat with his coffee and smokes and just watched me mow his lawn. I know I offered but is this what men do these days? Happily let their female neighbour mow their lawn?

The belief that when one's own side loses it's because they are too virtuous to stoop to the level of the other side is nearly universally held.
I have a chapter in my book called “Republicans are From Mars. Democrats are from Venus.” It recounts the stark cultural differences between working with Republicans (mercenary) vs Democrats (soft as babies). And those differences have electoral consequences.

In our region of the world, being religious and socially conservative is load bearing, we literally do not have enough of a society in place to survive becoming left wing and progressive and secular. We needed another 100 years of solitude.
🇨🇴Colombia (1.0) and 🇲🇽Mexico’s (1.2) fertility stats in the last few days are shocking. Hundreds of thousands of families not forming, cots not being bought, schools emptying, fewer neighbourhoods teeming with life. Part of a whole generation of humanity just… never to exist.

I don't think there's a single country with reliable figures where birth rates aren't trending fast below 2 in the metropole.
Iraq reported 1,026,242 births in 2025, around 1.3% more than in 2024. The TFR declined slightly to 2.74 (2.77 in 2024). The TFR tends to be higher in the south and lower in Baghdad and the central regions (no data for the Kurdish provinces).

If you think of sex without procreation crushing birth rates, will retail without currency crush GDP?
The final frontier of consumerism has arrived in South Korea.

This is correct, and it's why you need to start building yesterday if you have an idea you want to develop.
Vibecoding rules so much for the price right now that I fear it's going to be another 2014 Uber situation where you get 4 dollar rides across town but then they massively spike the price after going public
