People see Marc Andreessen as very anti Effective Altruism today, but his wife was very involved in it. I wonder how that changed

Let me tell you how this likely happened America’s defense corporations are hopelessly exposed to the Peoples’ Republic of China (PRC) in a multitude of ways. It’s hard to imagine that the same companies that build fighter jets, missiles, and radar for the US and its allies, also depend on official business inside China. Lockheed Martin, which makes the F-35, has registered entities in the PRC. An “entity” is a legal company such as a subsidiary, a factory, a sales office, or a joint venture. It has a Chinese business license, a Chinese bank account, and has to follow Chinese laws. The company also employs personnel who are listed on the Chinese state insurance roll. China requires every formal employer to register workers in the national social insurance system so we can see how many personnel inside China they officially employ. In other words, the Chinese government has a roster of every employee at Lockheed and through the National Security and Data Law, has legal power over the parent company that they work for. Their physical presence in China creates several types of risks: > Information risk People and computers inside China can see designs, shipping schedules, supplier lists, or test data. Chinese law can compel them to share it. > Leverage risk Beijing can threaten the local company or its employees (“pay a fine, lose your license, or help us”) to get what it wants from the parent company in the US > Supply chain risk Buying metals and parts that China manufactures presents huge vulnerabilities. Combined with local entities and staff, it becomes easier for China to see and squeeze the system This stolen F-35 cockpit canopy came from Australia, which like Canada, is highly compromised and penetrated. From South Korea it was diverted to Hong Kong, which sadly is no longer secure as a hub. Commercial tracking data, freight-forwarder systems, and the presence of PRC-linked logistics partners make high-value military shipments visible. Given Lockheed’s legal entities and employees inside the PRC, the intelligence picture gets even clearer. This is how “they” knew the schedule. It’s long past due to gut the foothold our defense companies have inside the adversary’s system. Btw Lockheed Martin, according to our data, is actually a lot less exposed to the PRC than Boeing, RTX (Raytheon) and Honeywell is.
How did they know the schedule for the shipment from Australia? What a coup for the PRC

Quick reminder that @thereforgepod got banned from @YouTube for saying exactly this. Students that don’t have a clearly defined career path in their mind should not go into debt to go to college. They should go to work. @ThaaatColin
This is the best post you’ll read today. Well said my guy.

Someone just dumped Thousands of $ORCL bonds afters hours. About to hit 8.5% yield 😳
$ORCL bonds crossing 8.3% for the first time after Larry Ellison used the Enron trick (first time anyone did since Enron) of “Customer Pre-Payments with a Significant Interest Component” to hide Operating Cash Flow Problems. Notably Oracle also was the first Publicly Listed US company outside of drillers and Miners (or Covid) to use Force Majeur to avoid paying on a data center lease it couldn’t afford, since… you guessed it… Enron.

Excited to introduce @Cosign: the curated professional network for the startup community: cosign.co Our goal is to create the following: - A comprehensive startup directory of investors, companies, and operators, including what they worked on and who they worked on it with. - Cosign graph: Who shaped your career? Who were you actually in the trenches with? Who would work with you again? Who thinks you’re someone to watch? - Durable reputation: Great endorsements happen every day on X and disappear into the feed. Cosign attaches those signals permanently to people and companies. - Discovery: Who are the best fintech angels? Which AI companies should I watch? Who are the best designers? - Intent network: Privately signal “I’d invest in them,” “I’d hire them,” “I’d work with them,” or eventually even “I’d acquire this company.” Match people when interest exists on both sides. Imagine if Wikipedia, LinkedIn, and OG AngelList had a baby. Though Cosign is a community, not a business. In order to join, you need to be cosigned. Or you can apply directly. David Booth and I started this idea 7 years ago but didn’t have the firepower to make it work. Now we do. No one has really touched LinkedIn in 20 years. Excited to take a swing. cosign.co

Yes I’m developing drugs and actually do experiments. I am farther along then all of $1-2 trillion Anthropic in drug R&D milestones. Generating structures or hypotheses has never been the bottleneck of drug development. In this experiment, 2 or 3 scientists did experiments for at least 2-3 weeks. They did not report that part. So even if computation decreases to 1 minutes that is only 1 day less (14 days to 13 days) to get to this nothing result, which is not close to being a drug.

Jupiter may be ~1% of capacity. The interesting part is that we can actually watch what happens next. GroundAlpha currently detects construction at the Oracle Jupiter site, but we don’t yet know whether activity has stopped following the force-majeure notice.

“The Space Force is telling satellite builders to prepare for roughly five times the volume within three to five years and is weighing multiyear buys to justify the factories. Its space systems chief put it as: if you nominally make ten, be ready to make forty.”
Here's today's hardtech brief! U.S. HARDTECH: - The Space Force is telling satellite builders to prepare for roughly five times the volume within three to five years and is weighing multiyear buys to justify the factories. Its space systems chief put it as: if you nominally make ten, be ready to make forty. - Oracle filed a force majeure notice on Project Jupiter, the 2.45GW Stargate campus in New Mexico, after the gas pipeline feeding it slipped to February 2027 and an air permit for its fuel cells stayed pending. The campus was designed to run on its own gas rather than the grid. - The Navy added $876M to L3Harris for the Next Generation Jammer Low Band, the pod on the EA-18G Growler that blinds the long-wavelength radars used for early warning. - Two GPS-denied navigation companies raised on the same morning, both in Colorado. Mesa Quantum took $11.8M led by Playground Global for chip-scale atomic clocks and accelerometers, and Locus Lock raised a strategic round with In-Q-Tel for software-defined satellite navigation receivers. - The Navy opened the second phase of its medium unmanned surface vessel marketplace, a site where authorized buyers across the department can issue funded orders directly instead of running new competitions. Entries need ten days of autonomous open-ocean operation and room for 48 tonnes of containerized payload. - Feather Robotics came out of stealth in San Francisco with a $7.6M pre-seed led by Gradient, selling a $30k modular humanoid that developers bring their own AI models to. It claims over $1M in revenue already, with robots working as cooks in Japanese restaurants. @featherrobotics - The Coast Guard stood up an Office of Robotics and Autonomous Forces and created an enlisted Robotics Mission Specialist rating. A rating is a permanent career track with its own training and promotion ladder, which is a much bigger institutional commitment than an office. - Allen Control Systems, the Austin company behind the Bullfrog autonomous gun turret, is opening a 16k square foot engineering office near Mountain View and hiring 35 to 50 engineers. Its cofounder said Silicon Valley was the natural choice for robotics talent, which is a useful signal that Austin is winning factories faster than it's winning autonomy engineers. @allencontrol - Prime Minute came out of stealth in Palo Alto with a $15M pre-seed led by Eclipse with 8VC, pointing defense-grade autonomy at wildfire suppression that works at night and in high wind, when conventional air tankers are grounded. The team comes out of Palantir and Forterra, and Colorado gets prototypes later this year. - Zero Infinity Partners closed a $156M second fund on an explicit reindustrialization thesis, naming metal midstream and aviation infrastructure among its targets. The bench comes out of Glencore, Stonepeak, and Antin rather than software venture, which is a different kind of money entering the space. - El Segundo investor Van Espahbodi warned that defense tech has drawn tourists and FOMO, saying he has met beauty investors who now call themselves defense tech investors and pointing at ridiculous valuations for companies that have yet to produce anything. He has 25 years in aerospace and runs a fund built around SpaceX alumni moving horizontally into other physical industries. @vdadmahi ALLIED HARDTECH: - Italy signed a €3.7B contract for two DDX destroyers through Fincantieri and Leonardo's joint venture, 13,500 tonnes each, delivering 2033 and 2035. Fincantieri takes about €1.8B of the work and Leonardo about €1.7B. - Bechtel, Westinghouse, and Poland's state nuclear company agreed the main commercial terms for three AP1000 reactors on the Baltic coast, aiming at first concrete in 2028 and grid connection in 2036. Roughly a billion zloty has already gone to Polish suppliers. - The Netherlands signed a letter of intent with Australia's Electro Optic Systems for the Apollo 100kW counter-drone laser, and is formally studying whether to build it domestically with a Dutch supply chain. Components could ship as early as mid-2027. Follow for more hardtechy goodness!
