I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.

if you’re in san francisco and love music, i highly recommend checking out Envelop. they’re an immersive-sound nonprofit with a beautiful listening room where 32 speakers surround you for full-album, end-to-end listens i just heard Currents by Tame Impala there, an album that means a lot to me, and it was such a special way to encounter it again. you can feel how carefully every sonic choice has been matched to the emotional charge of each song. also still insane to remember Kevin Parker arranged and recorded the whole thing himself their calendar is stacked too, with Daft Punk, Frank Ocean, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Miles Davis and many more. such a wonderful institution for a city to have, and a reminder of how different music feels when you give it your full attention

i love nature docs & i recently came across one that hit me super hard. turns out the labords chameleon’s life cycle is extremely short. they live only 4-5 months & immediately die after laying & burying their eggs (which is their only purpose)z in the final moments their nervous system begins to fail as their brain loses control of skin cells, so random nerve firings cause the skin to randomly change colors which causes a ridiculous art as they slowly die. it’s like sort of a visualization of the brain’s final flickerings. pristine example of nature’s beauty, tragedy, & brutality at the same time.
