This is a cheap ploy to use empathy to avoid the actual issue.
Police also work hard in difficult conditions, but we still hold them accountable for their actions and insist that policing policy is impartial and aligns with the public interest.
Let's dispense with the strawmans: we won't tolerate bullying. We won't tolerate homophobia. We won't tolerate racism.
But we reject the idea that schools (including ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS) are a place where educators need to discuss and celebrate sexual identities. The reasons are so obvious it's hard to comprehend that it needs to be discussed.
And the insistence on teaching kids that everyone has an ethereal "gender identity" which might require medical alteration of their body if it doesn't match their sex... it's bonkers. For the people who still don't get it: "trans kids" are overwhelmingly gay or proto gay, autistic, victims of trauma and abuse, or have psychiatric issues. They are often hurting, confused, feel like they don't fit in, and are looking for answers. And people like you offer them an answer: their brain doesn't match their body. But don't worry, we can stunt your growth with chemical castration and modify your body with cross sex hormones and surgery, so you can be your true self. It's the literal opposite of 'love yourself'.
And you are free to believe these bonkers things. But you don't get to teach it to our kids.
I'm an atheist. I'm glad our society made a decision to remove Christianity from public schools. Christians accepted this, but the bargain was always that the schools would remain secular. What you have done is create a new quasi-religious belief system, which you insist doesn't even exist, and snuck it onto schools through the backdoor.
We want schools to be safe, welcoming, and inclusive places. Your argument seems to be that the only way to have that is to give up our impartial, secular school system, and accept your activism and propaganda as the price of inclusion. We reject your argument and the false premise it's based on.
If you want to be an activist, preach your religion, and try to remake the world in the image of your vision, have at it. And if you want to be an educator, and give children the skills they need to be successful and responsibility citizens, that's great. But you can't do both. Choose.
The kooks in the BC Conservative Party are very triggered by this tweet. I hope school staffs and families are looking at their ridiculous and unhinged rhetoric. This is the same BCCP, even though those running are trying to appear normal just look at their base.
