Dishonest man complains about government taking action against something that he himself tried to take action against when in government.
The country is going down the pan and our Prime Minister is faffing around tweaking parking tickets. What is the point in Burnham if he refuses to touch the big issues like the ballooning benefits bill?

Can't deal with Westminster snobbery about things like stories on parking. A *huge* deal to people. Young people jobs crisis? Let's sort out parking in our town centres to help local business Cost of living? Tell that to the family hit by a £100 fine

Imagine the PM thought up this idea where he and his team take 30 mins each day to come up with some small measure that will help a subset of the population in their everyday lives. Maybe just maybe he’s onto something…… Still need to get the big stuff right obviously.
🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham has announced changes to car parking fines - Drivers will have a 5-minute grace period to decide whether to park and 10 minutes to leave after a parking session ends - A £20 maximum charge on appeal for minor mistakes, such as entering the wrong number plate or not displaying a permit - Charges will also be cancelled on appeal for breakdowns, medical emergencies or broken ticket machines - The £100 cap on charges will remain - The rules will come into force as soon as possible and operators that break them will lose access to DVLA data

She is absolutely right on the farcical time and cost it takes to build any significant infrastructure in the UK.
Cliveden House burnt down in 1849. The architect behind Parliament rebuilt it in two years. Now, Parliament has spent over a decade just planning its own repairs. What happened to the country that built things? 👇

I think a lot of Mr Burnham’s relative popularity is precisely because he does raise small issues the average voter can identify with. It’s also easy to say he’s ignoring the big issues but then you look at his conference speech which was anything but. 1/
France is in flames (yet he wants to rejoin the EU). Trump is selling out Ukraine, cosying up to Putin again A cost-of-living crunch is looming this winter, especially fuel bills. He still hasn’t told us how or when defence spending will reach 3% GDP. Inflation is rising once more, as are interest rates. Russian forces are threatening our infrastructure, especially undersea data and energy links. The Strait of Hormuz remains closed, our Gulf allies are under attack. And PM Burnham drivels about this!! It’s like the opening sketch from Saturday Night Live.

I’m not judging his policies either way in this post but I do think his messaging is more effective than those for whom it grates realise. Also maybe one reason France is ‘burning’ is down to politicians and leaders being seen as detached from the world of the everyman? 2/

It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. To understand why this is so appalling, it’s important to know the facts. Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically. Congresswoman Omar went on to graduate from college, work as a community organizer, become the first Somali-American legislator elected to public office in the U.S., and win a seat in Congress. There, she has been one of the Trump Administration’s fiercest critics, which has led the president to repeatedly single her out as someone who he believes does not belong in this country. Now the Administration is actively trying to deport Congresswoman Omar, seemingly based solely on the unsubstantiated theory that she was actually 18 when her father was naturalized, and therefore is not a citizen. Federal agents have raided her home, confiscated personal records, and seized her phone — all to try and uncover a nonexistent smoking gun from 20 years ago that will somehow make their case. Think about that. The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president. And it’s not the first time this has happened. Under President Trump, the Justice Department has repeatedly gone after those he considers his political enemies — from the Attorney General of New York, to the former head of the FBI, to members of the Federal Reserve. In those cases, the prosecutions either stalled or were dismissed for having no basis in law, and the same is likely to happen in this case. But not before Congresswoman Omar’s life has been turned upside down, her legal bills have piled up, and she’s been forced to spend time fighting unsubstantiated charges instead of serving the people of Minnesota. The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omar’s political views. Because if this becomes the new normal, there’s no reason to believe it will stop with her — or that future presidents, in either party, won’t do the same.

Question is how and when will City be relegated, not if.
⚖️ 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆’𝘀 “𝗶𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲” 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝙋𝙖𝙧𝙩 1 - 𝘼 𝙥𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙖𝙫𝙤𝙪𝙧 I am in the process of drafting a detailed article laying out why the Independent Commission was always going to refute Man City’s “irrefutable evidence” and deem it a concoction of lies and forged documents… and why the Appeal Board will do so too. It will take some time to put together though. But what might surprise most people is that even if it had succeeded in deceiving the panel members… Man City’s defence would have still failed! 𝙈𝙖𝙣 𝘾𝙞𝙩𝙮’𝙨 “𝙞𝙧𝙧𝙚𝙛𝙪𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚” 𝘾𝙊𝙐𝙇𝘿 𝙉𝙊𝙏 𝙖𝙗𝙨𝙤𝙡𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢 𝙤𝙛 𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙜𝙚𝙨! Even if they had successfully fooled the Independent Commission members into believing it were true, they would have still been in breach of all the same rules and subject to major sanctions. What’s more, the “irrefutable evidence” would actually guarantee that they must be charged with a further 100+ breaches for the 2018/19-2024/25 seasons too. I explain exactly how this is the case in the thread below… but the implication should get people questioning why they even presented this concocted evidence if it was always doomed to fail. When people try to analyse Man City’s actions they often forget that the people in charge are the rulers of the UAE. Money is not important to them - they do not act commercially - only power and influence matter. They are quite literally above the law at home and believe this should apply to them and their endeavours everywhere else. The most important thing to them is their reputation on the world stage. It’s why they bought Man City and spent so much on it. Their “irrefutable evidence” is nothing more than the desperate death throes of the UAE’s collapsing reputation. They will do anything they can to try and spin the narrative into one where they’ve done nothing wrong and it’s only a biased, racist cartel of clubs, the Premier League Board and Independent Commission members that are conspiring against them. It’s an insult to anyone with rudimentary intelligence and critical thinking skills. I will produce Part 2 of this analysis in the coming days, which will showcase why their “irrefutable evidence” is so obviously fake. This thread will focus solely on showing why it wouldn’t have absolved them of the charges even if it had worked… 🧵

Imagine the Mayor of Manchester being in the same place at the same time/event as the owners of Manchester City. The horror. ( He's making a pigs ear of this issue but it's ultimately a nothing burger )
🚨 Excl: Andy Burnham met senior figures from Manchester City at least four times despite the claim he held just one “significant” meeting A deleted register of interest shows that he received hospitality twice from Khaldoon Al Mubarak, the club’s chairman, while mayor of Greater Manchester The Times can now reveal Burnham also met Ferran Soriano, the chief executive, and Roel de Vries, the former chief operating officer, in 2023 and 2025 respectively The revelations follow the prime minister’s promise to be transparent over his relationship with the club, which has been found guilty of more than 100 Premier League rule breaches Details of hospitality from Al Mubarak, amounting to almost £1,200, were first reported by The Sun and seen by The Times using freedom of information laws Burnham met Soriano and Vries at Co-op Live in Manchester, one of the largest indoor arenas in Europe which is partly owned by Sheikh Mansour’s Abu Dhabi United Group

Can we deport this lot somewhere?
ITV undercover caught Reform councillors saying: • “If she was my daughter it would still be bath night on a Thursday… I’ll wash you properly this time” • “If she’d given me a hug I’d have fucking fingered her” • “Cut the cunt’s head off” ( Referring to King Charles while calling him a Muslim) • “Drag them out of their homes, stick them on planes and fuck them off to Pakistan” • “No more than 1% of the British population can be non-white” • Black kids = “fucking animals” • Used the slur “Paki” throughout • “I’ll take them out… you’ve got to kill or you’re going to be killed… these fuckers have come to rape and pillage and fucking kill us” • Train young men in “insurgency tactics” to go street-by-street, house-by-house • “I didn’t realise curry was an exchange that you could then rape all our kids” • Suggested burying pork chops to stop a mosque • “They should all be shot against the wall” Alan Feeney, Chris Whelan, Dean Miller, Raymond Dunning and Jamie Campbell should never get to work in the political field again.
