Retired, thank goodness, Barnsley fc for 62 years and counting, Proud husband, father and grandad, No DMs, you will be blocked #FarageOut

Retford, England
Watched 45 minutes of #bbcbreakfast and still no mention of ITV documentary about Reform. What a surprise, would normally have a 10 minute speech by Mason if this was about Labour.

Why have we got in depth business news on BBC 1 at 6.45 on Sunday morning. Leave all that on BBC news channel and give us something more of us are interested in. Actual news perhaps? #bbcnews

Axe the Jeremy Vine Show for pushing negative narratives against disabled people - Sign the Petition! c.org/F2pm6q5QjF

The media really hasn’t learned a thing from the Jeremy Vine episode, and their latest circling of the wagons proves it. They’re still tone deaf to why unpaid carers and disabled people were upset in the first place. They keep framing it as “online outrage” or a “backlash,” instead of acknowledging the real issue: Vine’s programme has repeatedly platformed harmful narratives about disability benefits and carers. People weren’t angry for sport, they were responding to years of being misrepresented, dismissed, and treated as debate fodder. And even after Vine stepped down, the coverage centred his feelings, his impartiality, his sadness. Carers’ concerns were treated like a footnote. This is exactly the problem. The media reports the event, but refuses to report the reason. It hears noise, not meaning. It still doesn’t understand, or doesn’t want to understand, the harm its narratives cause. Unpaid carers and disabled people deserve better than this. They deserve to be listened to, not caricatured. #UnpaidCarers #DisabledRights #MediaAccountability #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧☕️🫖🛢️💷🏥🧑‍🦽‍➡️🪾🏚️🔥🫵🗑️REFORM TOLD YOU THEY WERE COMING FOR IMMIGRANTS. READ WHAT THEY ARE ACTUALLY COMING FOR. Here is what Reform have said, in their own manifesto and from their own senior figures, that they will do to this country. They will abolish PIP, the payment that disabled and chronically ill British people live on. Their own document estimates 2.89 million people would have their disability support removed or cut, replaced by a far narrower scheme for only the most “severe, enduring and high-risk” cases. One in five people who receive PIP are in work. They will scrap the health element of Universal Credit on top of that. They will scrap net zero and every related subsidy, while the country burns through its hottest summer on record and firefighters tackle more wildfires than in the whole of last year. They will scrap environmental levies, the petrol and diesel phase-out, ULEZ and clean air zones. Dirtier air, by design. They will repeal the Human Rights Act and take Britain out of the European Convention on Human Rights. The roadmap they align with repeals the Act outright and refuses to replace it with anything. They will repeal the Equality Act. Suella Braverman, now a senior Reform figure, has said that on day one they will scrap the equalities department, abolish the equalities minister and repeal the Equality Act entirely. That is the single law protecting every person in Britain from discrimination on grounds of disability, race, sex, sexual orientation, religion, age and pregnancy. They will ban what they call “transgender ideology” in every primary and secondary school within their first 100 days, and force schools to out trans children under 16 to their parents. They will strip every Diversity, Equality and Inclusion role from every public body. They will move the NHS toward a private, insurance-based model. Treatment at the point of use, and you pay after. They will scrap interest on student loans while cutting undergraduate numbers “well below current levels.” Their leader has said same-sex marriage was “wrong.” He said in 2019 that people living with HIV should not be allowed into the country. He defended Section 28, the law that once banned schools from even mentioning gay relationships. His policy chief opposes abortion even in cases of rape. The party has taken tens of thousands of pounds from anti-abortion charities. They have already banned the Pride flag across every council they control. Now understand what leaving the European Convention on Human Rights actually means. Because this is the one they hide. You lose. You personally. The Convention protects the right to life, the ban on torture and degrading treatment, the right to a fair trial, the right to privacy and family life, freedom of speech and the freedom to protest. These are not rights for other people. They are the rights that protect you against the state when it wrongs you. The families of the Hillsborough dead used these rights to force out the truth. Domestic abuse survivors have used them to make police investigate properly. Disabled people use them to challenge degrading treatment in care. Elderly couples are protected by them from being separated in care homes. Journalists and protesters, the very people who scream about free speech, rely on them directly. Take them away, and an ordinary person has nothing higher to appeal to when the government treats them unjustly. You are left with only what that government chooses to hand you. There are exactly two countries in Europe outside the Convention. Belarus and Russia. That is the company Reform want Britain to keep. This was never about immigrants. When you repeal the Equality Act, you remove the protection covering disabled people, women, ethnic minorities, older workers, pregnant women and people of every faith, all at once.

I’ve been wondering why there’s STILL people who aren’t bothered about Farage trousering £millions to look after the ultra-rich. It may be because he gets his bungs in Crypto? Some may think that’s different to getting cash in brown envelopes, or £5 million in a wheelbarrow?

I make no secret of the fact that I found Anne Widdecombe’s views abhorrent, nor will I deny that I believe Reform UK incites division and hostility. But did she deserve to have every woman’s worst nightmare happen to her? No. She did not. The key takeaway is this: you don’t stop male violence by encouraging more hatred and division. Once you normalise that, society itself begins to unravel. There was already an epidemic of male violence long before politicians started fanning the flames for political gain. The leaders of Reform and Restore create unease and unrest because they profit from it. They point fingers. They deflect. They exploit despair and anger. Time and again, they have manipulated some of the poorest and most disadvantaged people in Britain. In doing so, they have contributed to an environment in which women, gay people, trans people and people of colour face greater hostility and, potentially, greater risk of violence. Does that mean I think Anne Widdecombe was to blame for what happened to her? Again, no. No woman deserves to be brutally murdered by a man. It is one of the oldest, deepest fears carried by women, and tragically, it is not an irrational one. I’ve received unspeakable threats despite not being a politician, simply for talking about politics. The police do nothing. The police are yet another institution women are forced to fear. Women are not safe anywhere, not even in our own home. I’ve lived alone. I know how vulnerable you can feel, simply because you’ve dared to have a voice as a woman. I’ve lain awake in bed wondering whether the noise downstairs was a man, radicalised by social media, fuelled by misogyny, entitlement and rage, finally acting on one of those threats. Anne would have likely done that countless times. The price women pay simply for existing is fear, the price they pay for having a voice or agency is even higher. While I found many of Anne’s views, particularly those regarding other women, abhorrent, that does not mean she asked for this. Men who inflict horrific violence on women rarely need an excuse. The fact that they can is often reason enough. Male violence is not limited to one culture, a political viewpoint, a particular religion or one race. It is endemic. No woman should have to die to prove this point but many more will unless action is taken. Do I think Reform and Restore should be defenestrated? Absolutely. But at the ballot box. Because we’re not fucking animals. And because the working class should have more respect for itself than to let a handful of old Etonian pricks decide who we are. The best revenge is to recognise who your real enemies are, then quietly leave them to their riches, their private jets and their mansions. The more irrelevant they become and the less divided we are, the less power they hold and the less money they make. Two things are true: No woman deserves what Anne Widdecombe endured. The likelihood of women enduring male violence has markedly increased because of the hateful, violent and divisive rhetoric of figures like Farage or Lowe. Reject them. They’re not on your side.
