Belgium’s Federal Parliament just passed a divisive law that allows police to raid people’s homes for migration control. Now they can enter private homes, including those hosting undocumented migrants, between 5am and 9pm and search for identity documents – even if children are present. Belgium traditionally shows strong solidarity towards migrant communities, and this ‘home raids’ law will discourage them from doing so in the future. No one should be scapegoated for soaring costs of living and economic insecurity. The law must be immediately reversed.
