Zia, this is a serious allegation, but your political spin deserves scrutiny. The £350,000 was accumulated across eight employers over more than three years, not earned in a single year. The 183 hours were contracted, not actually worked. And here’s the awkward bit: the alleged misconduct happened between 2020 and 2023, entirely under Conservative governments. It was reportedly uncovered through the government’s own fraud-detection system. If he’s convicted, he should face the consequences. Absolutely. But using one defendant, who denies the charges, to justify overhauling the entire Civil Service is political opportunism, not a policy. Perhaps explain precisely which safeguards Reform would introduce that don’t already exist. Accountability requires evidence, Zia. Not just outrage. independent.co.uk/news/uk/cr… gov.uk/guidance/national-fra…
A civil servant is accused of fraudulently holding FIVE government jobs at the same time while working from home. It's incredible. Five different government departments ran his pay every month and not one of them noticed he wasn't working. Prosecutors say he "worked" 183 hours in a 168 hour week. The taxpayer paid him £350,000. He's alleged to have used sick notes to juggle his jobs around. You can buy these online for as little as £30. Under a Reform government, every single level of the Civil Service will be overhauled. Government departments and public bodies will once again do what they were always supposed to: Serve the British public.

This is an extraordinarily disingenuous post from @Helen_Whately. Let's be absolutely clear about what she's comparing here. This isn't someone simply signed off sick. To reach that £27,400 figure, the claimant would need to qualify for substantial disability support, including enhanced PIP for both daily living and mobility, alongside Universal Credit health support and thousands in housing assistance. We're talking about someone with significant disability-related needs, not your average person off work with a sick note. And PIP isn't even an unemployment benefit. You can receive it while working! But here's where we should flip the argument... If SIX MILLION full-time workers are earning less than this carefully constructed example, why isn't Whately asking why millions of people are being paid so little? Why aren't we talking about employers paying poverty wages, the soaring cost of housing, or an economy in which working full-time increasingly fails to deliver financial security? And why aren't we scrutinising the extraordinary concentration of wealth at the top, rather than attacking some of the most vulnerable people in society? It's far easier to turn struggling workers against disabled people than to confront the economic system that's failing them both. That's the real scandal here.
Shocking new report from @csjthinktank To earn more than someone on sickness benefits you now need to make £33,000. That’s more than 50 hours a week on minimum wage – and 6 million hardworking taxpayers are earning less. Under this Labour government Benefit Street is booming. Only the Conservatives have a plan to tackle this crisis and get Britain working again.

Cllr Madgwick, I agree with one important point here: local residents should not be forgotten, and it would be wrong to describe every person who attended as a “thug”. Most people there were entitled to protest peacefully. ⠀ But we also need to be accurate about what actually caused much of the extraordinary scene being described. ⠀ The 149 people brought ashore were not settled in Fort Road or left wandering around Gosport. They were put onto coaches and transported outside Hampshire for processing. ⠀ What remained was a crowd of around 350 protesters and a substantial public-order operation. ⠀ Hampshire Police say officers were deployed not only to support the emergency response, but specifically to manage public-order issues, keep partner agencies safe and facilitate peaceful protest. ⠀ Twelve people were arrested. Officers were injured. There were alleged assaults, criminal damage and public-order offences, and one arrest followed an ambulance being obstructed. ⠀ So describing the police simply as “State Enforcers deployed against the people” turns cause and effect upside down. ⠀ The police did not arrive because Graham and his wife were standing peacefully outside their home. ⠀ They were there because a large demonstration had developed around an emergency operation, and because the conduct of some people required public-order measures. ⠀ That does not make every protester responsible. ⠀ It does mean the disruption cannot honestly be attributed entirely to the people brought ashore or to the Home Office. ⠀ Indeed, those people were moved out of the area for processing precisely rather than remaining in the local community. ⠀ If we genuinely care about residents such as Graham and his wife, then surely we should also acknowledge that bringing hundreds of additional people into their road, blocking vehicles, confronting police and creating a situation requiring cordons and dispersal powers adds considerably to the disruption they experience. ⠀ People have every right to oppose Government immigration policy and every right to protest peacefully. ⠀ But protesters, politicians, Government and police should each be held responsible for their own actions. ⠀ That is rather different from blaming everything visible in that photograph on the migrants.
THIS IS WHAT GOSPORT HAS BECOME! This photograph really says it all. This is Graham and his wife, local residents of Fort Road who have lived and worked in our amazing town for 75 years. This is a statement from Cllr Paul Carter, Reform UKs lead in Gosport; On Sunday night, I went to Fort Road after residents contacted me because they were frightened and concerned about what was happening. When I spoke to Graham and his wife, I initially thought their concern would be about the protesters, the barricades or the disruption. It wasn’t. They were worried about what their town had become. They stood outside their own home watching events unfold on their own road — with roads blocked, access disrupted and nails and screws left on the ground. And yet people like Graham and his wife, who have spent 75 years living and working in this community, were left feeling like their own neighbourhood had been taken away from them. They were not looking for trouble. They were not causing trouble. They were simply residents standing outside their home trying to understand what was happening. Yet the Government has used language to describe people involved in the events as “thugs”. I think we need to be very careful about painting everyone with the same brush. There were residents, protesters, police officers, emergency services and many others caught up in an extraordinary situation. And through it all, ordinary residents were left dealing with the consequences. This is their road. Their home. Their community. said: “This highlights the State Enforcers deployed against the people, blocking OUR roads and access to and from our own homes and you can even see the nails on the ground. This is what all those who voted in favour of selling the Fort Road Car Park have inflicted on us all! Importing a dystopian, apocalyptical nightmare. And remember also the Home Office ‘make no apologies’ for what they are doing. SHAME ON THEM ALL. And they still expect us to pay £66 a week in rates. And it’s only just begun. Graham has given permission for this photograph and for his name and story to be shared publicly because he wants people to understand what residents experienced. Whatever your views on the wider issue, local residents should never feel forgotten in their own town. Gosport deserves better! Our roads. Our homes. Our community. Our voice. 🇬🇧

I know he’s not exactly unsung but it does feel like Ampadu has taken his game to new heights with Wales and Leeds lately. A proper midfield general who runs games, tidying up with a quiet efficiency and driving his teams forward.

You’re all being manipulated and lied to. David Reuben has been living under the UK non-dom regime for years - he’s never paid his taxes in the UK. Now that has been wound up he’s off to join his brother in Monaco.
The exodus continues… Britain is bleeding out.

I honestly cannot believe there are people out there adamant city are innocent, they had 5 grand an hour lawyers who literally argued it for them, if they can’t prove it, then it’s highly likely the guilty verdict is legit.
One reason I’m so confident we are innocent in this case is because of what our owners have said. When Chelsea were found guilty of their 74 charges, they accepted the punishment and complied. Everton too. But we have maintained our innocence because we have done nothing. And let’s not forget how these charges came about in the first place. A hacker gained access to our emails and leaked our stuff. That’s a serious invasion of privacy.

Someone who knows what they’re talking about gives his expert opinion on the RAF Fairford suspects’ bail. Would be nice to think that Nigel, Robert, Richard etc might read it and reflect …
1/ While I get why people are confused by the bail decision in this case, such a course is not taken lightly, and it tells me as criminal law person not that the police are doing something wrong, but they are acting properly and lawfully now and avoiding a judicial review later.

I am English. I’m old enough to remember when considering yourself to be English meant that broadly speaking you’d been born here, grown up here, went to school here, lived here, followed English cultural customs and to all intents and purposes, were English. It wasn’t controversial. Most normal people who describe themselves as English mean this, in much the same way as they would describe themselves as a Londoner, or a Mancunian or a Brummie.; They aren’t referring to their ethnicity or trying to erase yours. It’s not complicated. The racists and grifters desperately trying to carve out careers as political commentators or angling to be Restore Britain candidates are redefining it exclusively as “ethnically English” because, much like the Black Lives Matter activists, their racial identity is their entire grift. They need to shift the Overton Window on the idea. Given most people would struggle to name their great-great-grandparents the idea that you should be able to trace your lineage back to the Domesday book is ridiculous. English is my national identity. It’s taken until I was middle-aged for it to suddenly be questioned. I’m not about to stop being English, supporting the England team or start having to justify my Englishness to satisfy anybody’s “papers please” witch hunt. I’ll die on this hill. First they came for anyone who wasn’t ethnically English…
As I’ve said before, I’m not English. I’m proud to be British. My family and ancestors have a link to Britain which spans centuries. But in no way are we English. Yes, I was born in England, speak English and support the England football team. And indeed, I love England and the English people. But to say I’m English is to take a ‘laissez-faire, anything-goes’ attitude to ethnicity, citizenship and identity. It also denies me my Asian heritage. The liberals (many of them in today’s Conservative Party) take this cosmopolitan approach to Englishness. They’re terrified of being called racist so they say that anyone, as long as they’re born here, can be English. I take the conservative approach. Englishness is an ethnicity. There have been English people for centuries and we need to recognise this more if we are to start taking a more muscular approach to citizenship and nationality. And no, it’s not racist to say this. Other countries have no qualms in limiting who can be part of their citizenry and use ethnicity and culture as criteria. Here, the dogma of multiculturalism has been so corrosive that some people don’t actually know who we are anymore.

We’re really at the stage of facism where we debating if where you are born doesn’t have any bearing on what nationality you are anymore
