We sent ONE HUNDRED thank yous in a week We thanked customers, partners and affiliates We even shipped our own system to compose thank you emails, attach videos and discount codes, and track open rates and replies Senja's new marketing strategy is built on the belief that marketing needs to be MORE human And this is just one thing we've started doing to deliver on it
I said “Thank you” to over 100 people this week in the most personal way possible and it feels AMAZING 💫

I got @startupwithana to read the bible
After years as Head of marketing for real estate companies, I'm now a customer growth marketer at a SaaS company. There is a lot of novelty. Turns out churn isn't the name of a Dubai villa with a sea view (He he, can you tell I have dad humor?) So I've been doing a lot of reading, or in this case listening. @helloitsolly told me "The SaaS Playbook" by @robwalling is a MUST if I want to understand him, this world and his decisions. I just finished it and I realized that I SHOULD HAVE READ IT DAY 1. Here are some things that you may or may not already know that I loved the most: 1. Pick one channel and double down until it works (or until you learn it doesn't work for you). Don't spread your efforts too thin 2. Talk to your customers and build the best product for THEM, not the one you think is genius. (I've seen the other version up close, it doesn't end well...) 3. You gotta say no to great ideas, even your customers' ones. Rob's rule of thumb is to build a feature only if 20% or more of customers would use it 4. Word of mouth is hard to track because it shows up as direct traffic. So best is to ask people where they heard about you 5. Selling SaaS = being an unpaid expert who helps people solve a problem with software (my whole content strategy is literally this, so I felt very seen here) And last but not least 6. Make your job description feel different. Olly nailed that one 😉, that was one hell of a job description and it was INDEED DIFFERENT, otherwise I wouldn't have been here haha Oh and most of the marketing chapter read like a recap of what we're already doing at Senja. Nice to get the confirmation. So if you are new in SaaS or just looking for a good read, I highly suggest this book. (There is a reason why its sold out and you can't find a paperback easily 😆 ) Thanks @robwalling 🙌 What should I read next?

Chatbase hit a new revenue milestone and now growth is feeling less linear and more exponential. We’re opening a new office in SF and hiring AEs.
The government of Malaysia is now running AI agents on @Chatbase

Airport lounges are a scam 95% of the time they're dirtier, more chaotic, and have worse food, than a good airport restaurant

Doing "tiny SaaS" and Mobile apps rn is like trying to do Print on Demand / Dropshipping in 2019 The barrier to entry have been destroyed, anyone with 2 neurons can pickup Codex to do the same now The indie hacker playbook doesn't works anymore, you can't just solve one tiny problem, build in public and do SEO and hope it will be a business IMO. It worked in 2013-2023 but not anymore If something is as easy as vibe coding something in a few hours, chances are your customers probably already do it And shitting 30 AI-generated blog posts isn't distribution, it will just be an extra turd swimming in the sea of slop that already exists out there I also see lots of ppl who think "building an audience" is a moat etc. So, yes but clowning on X is not building an audience, unless you plan on doing it full time and monetizing it via sponsors like what we've saw recently. But then it's a totally different business AND is just as hard because everyone want to do exactly the same and be famous, so you need to post INTERESTING STUFF 5-10x day if you want to have a chance So you can't just make the same kind of content, videos etc as everyone else is doing rn, you need to find interesting and unique stuff, which is hard. By definition business is hard. Don't trust ppl who say it's easy and fast. People pay you to solve problem they can't solve. If something suddenly becomes easy, it's means it's also easy for everyone else = it's less valuable There is no secret roadmap, there is no money glitch, it's supposed to be hard and sometimes sucks. Customers don't pay you to have fun and enjoying life traveling in Asia, they pay u to get their problem solved better, faster or cheaper. But by all mean if you enjoy doing tiny mobile apps, building in public and posting silly pics on X, have fun! But it's not a business, it's a hobby IMO the best thing to do rn is to go out of the bubble and talk with people, to find problems worth solving. Especially in old/boring industries. Cause lots of ppl won't do it simply cause it's not sexy or interesting and won't make lots of views on social media, which is good, it means less noise! IMO you don't need to know the industry perfectly as long as you're curious AND talk with users on calls etc. to get feedback Just my opinion tho

Resilience is having a bad day, like Tiago did, and continuing Every successful entrepreneur had multiple days when they wanted to crash out That's where the personal and professional growth lives - working on yourself, and through the challenges
Get a job. Entrepreneurship is a mental game. You need extreme resilience and optimism. I know it because I spent 5 years in the wrong state. Entitled to my hard work. Envious of others' success. Emotional when things don't go as planned. So I quit in 2021 and got a real job. I can't explain why, but it restructured me. In 2022, I didn't come back stronger, but with a completely different mindset that enabled my current journey. The same thing is happening right now to @dagorenouf. After his 9-5 at CompAI, he's back different. I root for everyone working on their entrepreneurship journey, especially you, Tiago. Sometimes I think it's better to have a break than to push harder. It worked for me.

Don't do this Keep your promise to sponsors, and your integrity Put your energy into enjoying your money And finding your next project
Why isn't @jonathan_wilke updating his homepage? He could be making $5k per day. I genuinely don't understand.

If you can't answer this question you're ngmi Why do your customers LOVE you? What do you do better than your competitors? This is the foundation of your marketing Sharing and proving your secret sauce In your landing pages, your paid ads, your comparison pages, your cold emails, your social posts, and even your page titles So how do you do it? First, ask them Second, and more easily, review the feedback they have already shared with you We're making that ridiculously easy for @SenjaHQ customers They can now see their testimonial themes See what their customers love about their product, policies and team It looks like this, and it's live now...

I haven't slept well in 6 years And I've spent the last year dealing with the fallout of my cofounder leaving But I'm finally in a place where I can take a proper break, spend time in nature and work on my health I am going to visit Madeira to hang out with some mates, relax, and play with AI Then I am off to @MicroConf Iceland to chat SaaS and hang out with @nico_jeannen and @AlexandruGlv I'm leaving Senja in the capable hands of @startupwithana @ngrushkovsky and Rani It's been a slog, but I am super excited that we're working well together as a small team Here's the email I sent them

You’re marketing constantly And all marketing is real Build in public is marketing Email is marketing Sharing with friends is marketing YouTube is marketing Free tools are marketing Just because you enjoy it doesn’t mean it’s not marketing But it’s a good lesson for founders Find the marketing channel that works AND you enjoy executing That’s the way you’ll continue doing it
My little SaaS, DataFa.st, just reached $30K MRR 🎉 It took 2 years, and I've never done real marketing. I don't do SEO. I don't run ads. I don't do sponsorships. My "audience" got me the first $300 MRR. The rest is word of mouth. I have a weird obsession with building features that make my users happy. Sometimes it flops. Sometimes they like it. They share it on social media. And new users discover the product. So I wanted to thank the 1,387 paying customers who use my product every day. I wouldn't be here without you. Thank you ❤️

Is this true?
Guys, I promise you, if you buy backlinks from Outrank you will get slapped out of the Google index and burn your domain forever. Too many people haven't lost their entire livelihood to a spam update yet and it shows!
