Prison walls do not stop legal problems from unfolding outside. They make it harder to respond.
When someone is detained, public attention often centres on their criminal case. Yet they also leave behind families, marriages, property and businesses—and legal concerns that cannot simply wait for their release.
Family disputes, property concerns and business obligations continue. With limited ability to communicate, obtain documents or seek advice, inmates can struggle to protect their interests and fulfil their responsibilities.
These overlooked legal needs deserve attention too.
To help address them, iPeace, in partnership with
@RCSPRwanda (RCS), brought mobile legal aid services to Rubavu Correctional Facility, providing 32 inmates with free legal assistance on civil matters.
