Co-led campaign to recall the SF school board. Co-founded SF Guardians @sfguardians, Now off grid in the redwoods.

Anderson Valley, CA
We’re moving out of SF this month. The four years in SF were truly incredible and rewarding. And I feel deeply honored to have helped catalyze positive change in our schools & city, working with so many amazing people. But the woods are calling & so into the forest we go!
Last year @autumnlooijen and me bought a patch of forest land to build an off grid home in the hills above Anderson Valley. It’s been an incredibly rewarding learning experience … and now that I’m an empty nester (oldest in college, youngest with his mom for a year or two), I live there part time. Follow along if you’re interested in off grid living / back to the land updates.

No you don't want this war to end ... if you wanted this war to end you'd put pressure on Putin. No you want Putin to win -- and given that he's losing badly, you're trying to stack the odds in his favor.
Trump: My decision on Russia is a very simple one. I don't want to do anything that will drive, foolishly, Russia away from the bargaining table. Russia is doing very little, if anything, to help the Islamic Republic of Iran, compared to what they could be doing. Zelenskyy is using Diesel Refineries in Russia as a target, knowing that these attacks are seriously hurting the world diesel markets, including those in the United States. Farmers, ranchers, and businesses of all kinds are suffering greatly from this, but Russia is, nevertheless, sending, at a low price, millions of barrels of diesel to the World. Zelenskyy doesn't care, and frankly, with all of the money that Europe is famously giving him, and that Crooked Joe Biden gave him in the past, he doesn't want to end this war, and probably never did. He could have made a better deal two years ago than he can now. His country is in shambles, a large portion of his land is lost, his oceans and seas are gone, and his male population is low, wounded, and/or dead. I WANT THIS WAR END!

The sight of a man who's sold his soul to the devil.
Rubio: "The diesel that Putin was going to sell, they were going to make it available to the global market one way or the other. The only difference is how much of it the US was going to get." By this logic, why do we need sanctions at all? They're going to sell sanctioned goods anyway, right? Wrong. Selling to China at a huge discount versus selling to the US or EU at full price is the whole difference sanctions make. And those waivers do give Russia a massive amount of money to keep murdering Ukrainians. Plus, Rubio openly says, "The difference is how much the US is going to get," which basically means how many missiles and drones they are going to fund without much impact on the diesel prices. Is that what Americans want?

Deeply concerning that a private American company is acting on its own accord to swing the odds in favor of Putin. This deserves a thorough investigation.
We don’t use Starlink for our responses inside Russia. We use Starlink to intercept jet-powered “shaheds” that attack our civilians and kill families. Starlink wasn’t turned off – its speed was reduced. And when the speed was reduced, we were unable to intercept a certain number of jet-powered “shaheds.” We couldn’t use a tool that helps protect people. That’s very painful and frustrating. We also use Starlink for mid-range strikes against enemy military targets in our temporarily occupied territories. We couldn’t do that when the restrictions were in place. And third, what matters most is people. Our warriors, who spend weeks and months on the front line, receive food and water delivered by drones using Starlink. Has the speed been fully restored to what it was before? No. Is it being restored now? Yes. From a conversation with media representatives in Brussels. (2/3)

This is treason.
If true, this is a very big deal. Not just in terms of Ukrainian lives that were lost. I’m not sure if people realize that this put the lives of US embassy officials and US citizens at large in Ukraine at great risk. This is madness. The White House did this. I’ve never seen anything like this in my career. Heads should roll. If true…

The Pentagon’s suspected actions endangered the lives of US personnel, the Senators say. “We are particularly alarmed by incidents in which U.S. diplomatic, military, and security personnel were unable to reach designated bunkers during Russian air raids, amid reported disruptions to intelligence-sharing and early-warning capabilities.”

So the white house is now claiming via Axios that @elonmusk was the initiator of the Starshield cutoff. We need to get to the bottom of this -- haul their asses to congress & let's figure out who was the traitor.

Not just tragic, treacherous.
Trump's abandonment of a democratic Ukraine and embrace of autocratic Russia during wartime will be recorded in future history books as one of the greatest, tragic mistakes in American foreign policy in our nation's history.

Trump is a traitor.
The war in Ukraine is the greatest fight for sovereignty and freedom in the 21st century so far. The tragedy of Trump changing sides and backing autocratic Russia instead of democratic Ukraine will go down in history as one of America's biggest foreign policy mistakes ever.

Don't be a fucking asshole @elonmusk all the money on planet earth is not worth this.
BREAKING: Zelensky says he has been betrayed by Trump, that Elon Musk and Trump deliberately blocked Starlink in Ukraine overnight and that people have been killed as a result. "I am sure they knew what they did, absolutely. Because it was 1am at night, Starlink was blocked by SpaceX and the United States," he tells Piers Morgan. "This decision will bring a lot of human losses. Of course, people will die." He said interceptors that rely on Starlink did not work, and that "this is not the right side of history." Asked if he is angry with Musk, Zelensky said yes, calling it a big mistake. "Now Putin is laughing because, I mean this is for him, simple victory," he says on the Trump-Russia diesel deal.

Its essentially a re-creation of the caste system -- the caste system is nothing but a jobs reservation program. Different jobs for different caste groups.
I can't believe it's real

Its likely more complicated than that -- software will turn into a hidden layer that your AI interfaces with, not you directly. Just like a skill you give Claude. So yes there will still be large software systems that run things -- but the need will be interface with AI not you.
let me break down “software is dead” for you the latest argument is “you just tell your agent what you want, and your agent will vibe code software on the fly to get that done, so no one will need real software any more” sounds reasonable, until you realize it costs tokens, compute, and wall clock time to build those software on the fly so instead of one-click launching an app, the bet is people will prefer to write a prompt, wait for 15 minutes, then get something that may or may not do what they want, and at the end of the month pay more $$$ for the token spend, higher than all their software combined that’s literally the argument and if we look at the world in aggregate, most people would just end up building the exact same “personal” software repeatedly oh - your agent just spent 3 days and $500 of tokens vibe coding your terminal multiplexer? mine just did exactly the same! let’s celebrate how personal our terminal multiplexers are! sorry - i just don’t see that as being a happy scenario for anyone, other than people who profit from telling others how to waste $ on tokens to be constructive, here’s what i believe as the future state - - high quality software that takes high cost to make will continue to thrive. just like good restaurants don’t compete with your air fryer and microwave - most of those software will be offered headlessly for people to use via their agents, and they can continue to monetize such usage. this is already the case with products like jira, linear, stripe - human-facing software will all offer dynamic UI that can be adjusted with natural language on the fly so they can be personalized easily, but their core doesn’t have to be rebuilt by every user repeatedly instead of “software is dead”, i believe good software becomes “strong core, headless service, fluid interface” which future do you think is more likely?

Useful list. I personally find I get the most value out of Claude when I frame the problem into questions rather than commands. When I issue commands, the cognitive space narrows and it moves to execute. When I ask questions the cognitive window widens.
Hi, I'm Felix. I'm an eng lead working on Claude. I love watching people take flight and do things they never thought possible. We often describe that as "being more ambitious" when using AI, which is tricky advice to follow. I wrote a tutorial: felixrieseberg.com/how-to-be…

the concept of playing the CEO of OpenAI in a biopic and never using chatgpt as anything more than "fancy google" on a purely artistic level how can you understand the mania of this moment with no understanding of the magic that spawned it
Andrew Garfield says he stopped using OpenAI’s ChatGPT as “a fancy Google” after playing Sam Altman in Luca Guadagnino’s new movie “Artificial”: “I got a bit scared. I felt a little mistrusting of the technology. It feels like the people who are encouraging us to use the technologies don’t exactly know its capacities themselves. That feels a little irresponsible, to me personally.”

Whoa
So you mean to tell me we had a pneumonic plague outbreak at Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute which was a central cog of Biopreparat and Russia's Bioweapon development programs Project 5 and Ferment. A site to this day that remains under a shroud of extreme state secrecy. A site that forbids independent oversight, international audits, or foreign inspections. A site whose main task was strain-hunting and sourcing hub for the offensive pipeline. A site whose task was to harvest, isolate, and cataloge highly virulent, naturally occurring wild pathogens—specifically Plague (Yersinia pestis), Anthrax, Tularemia, and Brucellosis. Of these the most aggressive, lethal, and climate resilient strains discovered by Irkutsk were forwarded directly to the centralized Biopreparat network to be genetically engineered for antibiotic resistance and weaponized. Well fuck.

Agree. AI advantages generalists with broad knowledge base that spans domains.
Elon’s advice to 20-year-olds on surviving the AI era: Get as broad-based an education as possible: arts, sciences, engineering, and wide general knowledge. Why? AI and robots will fulfill almost any request immediately. The edge won’t be doing the work. It will be knowing what to ask for. The broader your knowledge, the better your questions. (source: CGTN)
