Last year, I put together the first version of a Delegation Handbook.
A year in DAO governance is a long time. The space evolves, new models emerge, and what “good delegation” looks like keeps changing.
So at @Anode_GG, we went back to it, challenged what we thought we knew, and built V2.

It's possible that a killer app of adversarial governance mechanism design theory will end up being AI safety.

There's a deep duality between the two environments. Both are about a less-sophisticated principal trying to get ideal outcomes from a set of more-sophisticated agents: in the first case, the principal is a static algorithm and the agents are humans, in the second case, the principal is humans plus weaker LLMs and the agents are stronger LLMs.
A key finding was that you can achieve much better outcomes if you can guarantee limits to how much agents can collude (see: Nash equilibria being abundant, vs. cooperative-game-theory "cores" often being empty). That argument should naturally transfer to this new setting.

One of the most interesting governance problems in crypto isn’t voting.
It’s what happens after capital gets allocated.
There’s a big gap between approving something and actually seeing it work in practice.
That layer deserves much more attention.

On-chain governance in the age of AI:
We've seen an attacker submit 1,656 malicious proposals to a low-TVL token on @reserveprotocol.
The idea is simple: Make it impossible for guardians to catch every single one of them. Only a single of these proposals has to go through for the attacker to be able to drain the funds quickly.
The token is called $BDTF and has a marketcap of just shy of $5,000. So not a huge target.
But also a powerful demonstration that cost is no longer an issue. Submitting 1,656 governance attacks on-chain on Base cost probably less than $1.
What to do?

And clear procedures.
The time where "everyone can propose", because "we're onboarding the next billion users", is OVER!
It never worked anyway.
Token projects need to grow sustainably and offer strong investor protection from day one.

If your token holder governance feels off...
Just work with Anode.
We published a proposal calling for all DTFs to follow time tested governance procedures.
The RFC calls for two core governance upgrades across the Reserve ecosystem:
Mandatory Standard Governance Flows: Require all Index and AI DTFs to follow the standard DTF Governance Requirements that Yield DTFs have successfully utilized for years.
Optional: Transition to Permissioned Governance (Curated Proposers): Eliminate arbitrary addresses ability to on-chain proposal creation. Instead replace it with a curated, pre-screened proposer framework to protect stakers, governors, and users.

Unsure where the sudden inflow comes from.
Thankfully Reserve's Governor contracts have execution delays, a great governing community and Anode as well as Decurity on the watch.
Four of the five proposals in the screenshot are admin swaps, where the attackers seeks to gain full control over the vault.
The exemption in the picture is ETH+.
That also points to the utility of having a clear governance procedure. If every proposal that isn't first published on the forum is default-no, this makes attacks much harder to pull of and easier to detect.
The Reserve App makes detecting payload anomalies very easy, see screenshot two. If the proposal seeks to "rebalance the DTF" but grants an unknown role, it's pretty obvious why this isn't a well-meant proposal.
Procedures matter! Watchfullness matters! Stay safe.

Ethereum is shipping across every layer, institutional adoption, privacy, L2s, payments.
One gap I think will become important: how institutions actually exercise governance rights across the protocols they hold.
Custody is getting solved. Governance operations are still early.

Here are 35 things the Ethereum ecosystem launched, upgraded, and announced through August.
1/ GnosisDAO approved a vote to transition @gnosischain from its own L1 to a ZK-proven Ethereum L2 rollup with synchronous composability, so apps on Gnosis and Ethereum can interact in a single transaction.
2/ @BlackRock introduced the BlackRock Select Treasury Based Liquidity Fund (BSTBL) with a tokenized share class on Ethereum mainnet for managing stablecoin and digital asset reserves, and began tokenizing share classes of its $311B European money market fund series on Ethereum.
