As Fat Bear Week comes to a close, we’d like to spotlight our not-so-fat bears, Cinnamon and Raisin! 🐻🤎
Since they arrived at the Zoo as rescued cubs in 2025, Cinnamon and Raisin have each gained over 100 pounds – now tipping the scales at 168 pounds and 195 pounds, respectively! Our nutrition team and zookeepers modify their diets during the fall season to help them plump up a bit before they slow down during the wintertime. They both reached their peak weights last winter, so keepers are excited to see how much weight they will gain as they prep for winter this year.
Our bears don’t truly hibernate, but they do enter a state of torpor – a state of lowered physiological activity, including lower heart rate, reduced metabolism and slower activity.
