There is no "super intelligence", there is not even "artificial intelligence". These are just marketing terms.
In reality, all of AI ist just a bunch of programs, written by humans, and executed on a computer.
Thus all risks caused by AI are the result of *human* activity.
We need to educate the public about the nature of AI, now.
The public discourse is totally misguided and shaped by unrealistic fearmongering and other narratives that are out of touch with the technical reality.
The obvious sign of this is the talk about "dangerous" models.

He positioned FTX as the most responsible exchange — the one with the most guardrails. The fraud was trying to become the law. Now, Anthropic, a company which Sam Bankman-Fried led all investments in up to the day he went to jail, is copying his playbook. They are trying to ban their competitors, using the same tactics as their lead investor Sam Bankman-Fried. I don’t think they will get away with it, but we will have to stop them.”

It is remarkable to me that Republican leadership in both chambers and the chairs of the respective Commerce Committees have still not floated any legislative language on AI policy. Not even draft language has seen light of day. Dems haven’t even won the midterms yet but they are already completely in control of setting the AI policy agenda at the federal and even more so at the state level, where large Blue states – led by CA, NY & IL – have essentially already established America’s de facto national AI regulatory policy. A complete governance failure by Republican leadership on the most pressing technology policy issue of modern times.

Riding the huggingface AI safety wave to justify a crackdown on open source is abominable. Not only was an open-source platform victimized in that attack, but they relied on open-source models to defend.
These people know this, of course. They simply don't care.
We're used to thinking of open-source models as an unadulterated good. But in the case of AI, they can actually pose additional dangers, as @ReidHoffman and I got into at #CGI2026. I appreciated this nuanced discussion.

All recent large-scale cyberattacks have been performed by proprietary AI models from OpenAI and Anthropic.
No evidence that open-weight models present any additional cybersecurity risks.

We're now reaching the stage of AI policy hysteria where lawmakers will start proposing things on an “emergency powers" basis.
We'll be told “there's no time for delay" and "we cannot wait any longer" as lawmakers look to ram through major power-expanding bills without much serious consideration. In some cases, we won't even get to see the bill language beforehand, as with Sen. Mark Warner's new effort.
Broad new powers and discretion will be delegated to the executive branch as part of these efforts, and powerful new administrative bureaucracies will be proposed as other existing ones are expanded. You'll hear the terms "crisis" and "urgent protections" used at every juncture.
We've seen the script before before during the Great Depression, Vietnam War, post-9/11, & COVID.
Government grows, liberties fade.

I don’t have many details at this point, but it’s no secret that Jim was dealing with permanent injuries from Butler—including having bullet fragments still inside of him.

The new Sanders-Casar “Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act” is the perfect embodiment of authoritarian thinking. Jail time for innovators, corporate death penalties, flat innovation bans, an unprecedented general-purpose technology regulator, ambiguous threats against “rogue actors,” and even hints of hostile actions against foreign governments who continue to develop advanced AI systems.
If America followed this techno-totalitarian script, it would represent one of the greatest expansions of government power in our nation’s history and a de facto declaration of technological surrender in the AI and robotics revolution as China races ahead on both fronts.
The ramifications for our national security are horrifying.
Bernie Sanders and Greg Casar introduced the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act today. It will:
- ban the development or deployment of Artificial Superintelligence, aka any AI that 'exceeds human cognitive performance and capabilities across most domains, or has sufficient capabilities to destroy or disempower humanity, including by overthrowing the federal government'
- pause 'Advanced AI development' until a new federal AI regulatory body is up and running and has established clear rules and model-review processes
- establish a new cabinet-level federal Department of Artificial Intelligence (this should be the Department of Super Intelligence, there must be some mistake)
-set penalties for any person or entity that attempts to violate or circumvent the pauses and prohibitions in the bill: 'Entities shall be subject to the corporate death penalty, and persons shall be subject to not more than 20 years in prison'
- set the international policy of the United States to 'pursue international agreements, allied coordination, and policies such as export controls to prevent the development of artificial superintelligence anywhere in the world'
