#groundbeef week 4 comparison: Store: $12.99/lb (No Change) Live cattle: $2.15/lb (DOWN 1.74%) Not a huge change this week. BUT I can tell y’all this from the front lines: #diesel prices are WAY up nationwide. Meaning filling our tractors up daily is putting a MAJOR DENT in any possible profit to be had by cattle ranchers/farms. You take #diesel prices UP AND live prices down by 1.74% and it’s an approx 4-5% decline to the bottom line for ranchers/farms this week. AGAIN: 4 STRAIGHT WEEKLY LOSSES to ranches/farms. Not that I expected it to be any different. 🤷 What stings the most is seeing not only the rancher take a loss, but seeing these still overly inflated prices behind store counters. Both sides are losing at the moment. 😢 #Beef was not meant to be a luxury food for people. It should be affordable and available in the masses for all to enjoy.
