Billions of taxpayers money spent on DEI & here is the RoI.
Wow. #PoliticsLive discusses Ann Widdecombe’s murder case & chose to feature @DazeAghaji smearing her. The killer still hasn't been prosecuted, yet the BBC gives airtime to attacks on the victim. Utterly shameful. This fat jabba the hut looking cretin needs deporting.

Just had a guy on a bike almost crash into me on Marsham Street (maybe 8 mins walk from Parliament) as he was speeding along the pavement on an electric bike. 20s probably, Asian-looking I tell him to not ride on the pavement as I walk away - angrily, but no shouting or swearing etc He throws the bike down and comes after me and says "do you want me to shank you?" (aka stab). Tucked into his belt he has a longish piece of metal - seemed to be some sort of blade but I can't be 100% sure what it was in truth. Enough to scare me anyway I very hurriedly walk away and he yells "yeh run you posh cunt", and at some point he (I think) stops following I call the police (was in two minds between 101 or 999 ; ended up going for the latter). Operator asked me my name and then how to spell it (hardly seemed the priority) Tell her what happened. She asks if I am still in danger - I say well I've walked away but the guy is still around I think She says it's not an emergency so I need to fill out a form on the police website. She says she'll text me the link I say - there's a guy threatening to stab people and is that not a priority? She says no and to fill out the form. I try to interject but mid-sentence she cuts the call That's it Not sure what to think really but as someone who doesn't have many interactions with the @metpoliceuk I just didn't really expect it to be so..dismissive? Maybe they were having a busy Friday night who knows

Okay, who can guess what Andy Burnham will ban this week? It needs to be something small, fiddly, and which will make no real difference to anyone.

Excl: Labour’s energy policy is “batshit crazy” and the department overseeing net zero is “basically the ministry for P45s”, one of Britain’s most powerful union leaders has said. In an interview with The Times, Gary Smith accused the government of relying on “sticking-plaster politics” while companies struggled with high energy costs and warned that rising energy bills would create a raft of fresh strikes across the public and private sector. On Jackdaw and Rosebank he said: “If they do not do this, it will damage hugely the government’s credibility, and it will massively damage investment because that infrastructure, as I understand it, is ready to go — billions of investment. And if it does not now happen, who in their right mind is going to put money into this country?” thetimes.com/uk/politics/art…

I still think people are underpricing CGT being equalised with income tax - ie a 45% marginal rate - with an exit tax at the budget. The exit tax is what makes it revenue increasing, in the short run. They would be pre-trailing it not happening if they had ruled it out.

🚨SENEDD BANS THE TERM "BLANKET 20MPH"🚨 The Senedd's ban on using the word "blanket" to describe 20mph speed limits descended into farce earlier, as several members were reprimanded for using the term. You really need to watch this one in full.

The idea that Hislop/Private Eye are the Ministry of Truth is beyond parody. He’s delusional.
Older people are now reading "a lot of chatbot rubbish" and that's "dangerous." After four decades at Private Eye, Ian Hislop tells #Newsnight it's not just young people falling for disinformation and why it "is always worth correcting."

This made me laugh. Sophy Ridge asked Lucy Powell a question about the triple lock on @RidgeandFrost. Powell did what politicians always do: ignored it completely and started rambling about something else. Normally presenters just let them get away with it and move on. Ridge never does. She sat there patiently, let her talk, then pounced: “Did you hear what the question was?” 😂😭 Powell looked stunned, stuttered, and nodded, “Yeah.” Well why not bloody answer it then!? Drives me mad when they do this. Even worse when interviewers don’t call it out. Sophy always does, to be fair to her.

Interesting that BNP Paribas is down over 8% on the week. Is there a doom loop emerging between the French banks, and France's state debts? If so, that will quickly turn the drama into a crisis.

Burnham has ensured that another big argument about the EU is coming soon. Those who believe in national independence need to gear up for it, and treat it as a first order fight. My @Telegraph column today. telegraph.co.uk/gift/9f1a750…

You know the EU is already something of a mid-tech backwater when it comes up with something even worse than Microsoft Teams. In a way, it’s quite the achievement.
The European Commission has rolled out an alternative to Microsoft Teams. But officials using it aren't impressed, with one describing the tool as “absolute shit.” vist.ly/5kje9

Most people don’t yet grasp what is happening in France. Markets are pricing French sovereign debt as junk, rating agencies will eventually have to follow. This will have two major impacts: 1. Most French banks are already rated at or just below the sovereign, so a move toward junk would likely drag domestically focused lenders with it. Credit to households and firms would slow sharply, hurting the economy and widening the fiscal deficit even further, a vicious cycle. 2. For the ECB, the constraint is legal as well as financial. A fall below investment grade would force sales by ratings-bound investors while making any backstop harder to justify under current rules. The next euro crisis will begin in France. The first, which began in Greece, will feel like a walk in the park compared with what comes next.

You know that feeling of fiddling while Rome burns.
You know that feeling when you book a flight for 50 quid and somehow it ends up costing 100? Getting seats together, correcting a typo, another charge here and there, it all adds up. When the cost of living is already squeezing people, those endless extras can feel relentless. So we're changing the rules for you. Parents won't need to pay a penny extra just to sit next to their own children. You'll be able to fix any name errors on your booking free of charge. And because the last thing you want once you're on the plane is more stress, we're working with the industry to make sure that disruptive passengers who have been banned from one airline can be banned from flying with other airlines too. I know holidays are expensive and these are small things, but hopefully they'll make your trip just that little bit cheaper and easier. That's exactly the kind of thing I want this government to keep on fixing.

Bereft of ideas
The Chancellor’s first signature policy change was demand pump priming of the UK housing market, at a time when inflation is rising and the supply side impacting new build volumes/ existing stock recycling is heavily constrained. It speaks to muddled economic thinking, or an incorrect diagnosis of what is undermining UK economic growth. A lack of demand is definitely not the feature. Indeed resilient demand is one of its standout features.

NEW: Senior Downing Street officials have been reaching out to thinktanks and pollsters as they look to test public support for the UK rejoining the EU. Aides to Andy Burnham have been talking to EU experts in a range of organisations about how the public would view a promise to rejoin. Some in No 10 are keen to promise that Labour would at least negotiate over re-entry, something Burnham has previously said he wants to see happen “in his lifetime”. Others are nervous, however, that making such a promise could revive the flagging political fortunes of Reform UK leader Nigel Farage - @kiranstacey & @lisaocarroll report theguardian.com/politics/202…
