🇳🇱 Netherlands Wants Out of EU Gas Storage Rules Dutch Climate Minister Stientje van Veldhoven: gas storage obligations "should fall mostly on the gas market participants," not governments. The Hague spent almost €1 billion this filling season alone. Dutch storage sits at 56% full, EU-wide storage is at 70%, both below the 86% seasonal norm. The mandate charges by tank capacity, not gas demand and Dutch demand has been shrinking for years while its storage system stayed large. Officials are also weighing whether to grow the national strategic reserve from about 5 terawatt-hours to as much as 72. Brussels is drafting a replacement framework for later this year that would drop fixed targets and fold gas and power supply rules together. Getting it through Parliament and the Council will take at least a year.
