In my observation, it is extremely difficult for someone to stay heavily involved in politics for a sustained period without losing a significant chunk of their soul. Entertainment and politics are the worst sectors for this phenomenon. Too many big egos and perverse incentives.

The political discourse in this country has reached unprecedented levels of insanity. People's brains are cooked. I don't know how much longer I can participate in the mainstream discussion but the longer this goes it becomes more and more clear that "we the people" generally just like being slaves. We want it. We love lifting up and worshiping false idols and living beneath them, pretending one day they will lift us up and save us from our troubles, full well knowing deep down it's never going to happen. And we do it over and over and over again and it's become really gross to me. I can only recommend having an honest look at yourself and gauge where you are on this spectrum. Some (many) will continue the path, continuing to accept and embrace this slavery... the rest of us are going to have to head another direction and fight are way through when the time comes.
