Big Manchester United Fan. Love watching comedy & action TV series, music buff.

When you see blue tick City fan accounts start posting this, you know they've already concluded that they cheated 🤣
If Manchester City are found guilty on appeal, then the argument is essentially that they won everything by not being constrained by arbitrary financial rules and were therefore able to outspend their rivals. So… exactly what Manchester United did throughout the 90s and 00s? If City’s trophies are “tarnished” because they had a financial advantage over their rivals, what does that make United’s?

If afterworld does exist, I wonder what kind of punishment awaits folks like Brian Lilley
Canadians are aghast at this story and wonder how could Americans do this. In Canada, we are much more efficient at this and just call it MAID.

Let’s be clear. Europe can buy what British Columbia produces. That is good business. We are not joining the European Union. What Ursula von der Leyen offered this morning is a title that does not exist. Associate member. There is no such thing in their treaties. Mark Carney was in the room for a standing ovation. Canadians should not confuse applause in Strasbourg with a deal that is good for this country. If Europe wants our LNG, our lumber, our minerals, our food, sell it to them. We have been trying to get product to market for years while Ottawa tied itself in knots. A customer is a customer. Take the order. What we will not do is hand our laws to Brussels. We will not take their labour rules, their climate paperwork, or their immigration system and drop them on a province that is already buckling under housing costs and red tape. People in this province cannot get a mine permitted, cannot find a family doctor, and cannot afford a home. The last thing they need is another layer of government they did not elect. Carney said on Sunday Canada is not applying to join the EU. Then this morning the head of the European Commission used the membership word anyway. That should concern anyone who still thinks this country makes its own decisions. Trade with Europe. Stand with our allies. Do not outsource the country. B.C. workers need buyers, not a new capital.

As a former journalist who has covered city hall in a few communities, I'm curious how this whole saga has spiraled. Hasn't it always been the case where council gets a "wish list" of sorts and it's their job to figure out what the biggest priorities are? Am I missing something?
BREAKING: Calgary city council will hold a special meeting Tuesday morning to receive legal advice after the release of confidential, preliminary budget documents. globalnews.ca/news/12047944/…

Hi Mayor @JeromyYYC . Would you be able to share the past year's budget process. I.e. what was the initial wish list going to cost Calgarians vs what was the eventual tax hike owed to Council, ignoring the Province caused substantial increase.

You really should read this entire exchange. @jkenney tried the “doctors make money too” argument. The doctor took that argument apart point by point, and Kenney’s premise didn’t survive the examination. Clear, compassionate and surgical. #ableg #abpoli
Thanks Premier Kenney. I am impressed by your unwavering patriotism and collaboration with Premier Notley. Allow me to correct you on some much-debunked fallacies. 👇👇👇 1) You can't queue jump to see me if you're wealthy. That's essentially what Alberta Conservatives have enacted. If you're homeless, intoxicated and with unstable vital signs I attend to you before a housed patient, with stable vitals and abdominal pain. That's the Canadian way. We put acuity and medical need over ability to pay. That's what we consider fair. That's what most Canadians want. That's the opposite direction of the Smith Conservative government. Would you tell a farm hand they are less important than an oil executive, Premier Kenney? 2) Profiteering is different than profit. I apologize for nothing that I work and I profit. Profiteering is taking undue advantage of people in need, and gouging them for additional fees. That's not what I do. You can't bribe me $500 extra in the ER to be seen faster when the waiting room is packed. That would be unprofessional, immoral and stupid. That's what the Smith Conservative government is doing. 3) Queue-jumping solves zero. Doctors are a fixed resource in Canada, as you know Premier. If you pull us doctors out of the public system for people willing to slip in extra money, you reduce the capability of the public system. That's not how I operate but that's what Alberta Conservatives are doing. You're right that profit (also called a job) is fine. You do it, I do it, anyone with a mortgage or pays rent does it. The difference is profiteering, queue-jumping and prioritizing those who can essentially bribe the doctors. I would hope you would agree those are fundamentally un-Canadian values. Let me explain a medical corporation to you. It's legal. It was put in place by your Conservative Premier colleague Mike Harris in 2000. The government put this in place in lieu of increasing physician compensation. It violates no Canadian or provincial laws. Most doctors in Ontario do it. It defers taxes to when you are earning nothing. I'm not apologizing for it because it's how most Ontario doctors are compensated for their services. Unlike you Premier Kenney, I'm not getting a federal government generous pension when I grow old. My savings are all I have for my family and I. A medical corporation doesn't violate in any way the Canada Health Act which is what the Alberta Conservative government is doing. Let's now shift to Europe which I'm glad you raised. I agree with you, let's be more like Europe. Europe invests far, far more than we do in publicly funded healthcare and related social services. That's why multi-payer systems there is fine. Because they take care of the basics first, better than us. You negate to mention this crucial difference. I'm not against white-glove profiteering healthcare if we take care of the basics first. I hope this clears this up. There's no hypocrisy. It's one thing to attend to patients based on need, not gouge them at their time of need, not pick favourites based on essentially a bribe, knee-cap the publicly funded system and bill the government for services rendered through a law-abiding corporation. I'm ashamed of nothing Premier Kenney. Alberta Conservatives, on the other hand, have enacted policies that are frankly disgraceful to the average Albertan who make about $52,000/year after taxes. @jkenney

Doctor who profits from health care protests the idea of people profiting from health care.👇 The vast majority of doctors in Canada are paid through their own professional corporations, ie businesses that profit from health care. How did the Canada left become so enthralled to the bizarre idea that the universally insured multi payer systems of Europe’s social democracies are some kind of health care dystopia? Why the religious devotion to one of the worst performing health care systems of any developed country, a system that is consistently in the bottom quartile of results and the the highest quartile of costs in the OECD? Any why the hypocrisy? None of the doctors or unions who protest greater choice in health care work in the system for free. They all profit from their work. There is nothing shameful about that.

This is exactly the wrong debate. The choice is not “public health care” versus “American health care.” That framing lets governments avoid the real question: are patients actually getting treated? I support universal, publicly funded health care. But I do not care whether the person doing my MRI, cataract surgery, hip replacement or other procedure works for a government-owned facility or a privately operated clinic. Fund the patient through the public system and use every qualified provider available. I’ve had friends and family stuck in wait-time hell, waiting months and sometimes years for tests, specialists and treatment while their pain, mobility or quality of life got worse. When you’ve watched someone you care about live through that, slogans about “protecting public health care” start sounding pretty hollow. The comment under this post exposes the problem better than the rally does. Someone facing years of waiting in Manitoba went to Quebec and received treatment in months. Telling that patient to keep waiting in pain because private delivery offends somebody’s ideology is not compassion. Set the price. Set the medical standards. Audit the outcomes. Let public and independent providers compete to deliver the service. The patient presents their Manitoba health card, not their credit card. What I oppose is a system where wealth determines whether you receive medically necessary treatment. But defending government monopoly delivery while people sit on waiting lists is not defending universal health care. It is defending the bureaucracy that delivers it. Universal access should be the principle. Government ownership of every clinic should not be.

Cadets do great work, and are not members of the military. 158 members of the Canadian military gave their lives in Afghanistan after your country was attacked. Canada and the US have a great history of fighting together for freedom and justice. It's history worth remembering.

The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”. The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America. We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms. Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.

Since your replies are blocked, perhaps intentionally, you do realize this is not Stampede grounds but a spot 3 km away from the grounds? And the tent moved there only couple years back
Those who complained knew the Calgary Stampede existed prior to moving to the area. I used to live near the Stampede grounds before moving to Ward 2 and this is part of living in an urban area of Calgary. Your Wyness wish-washiness is consistent at least.

It's time to cut through the bullshit about the Cowboys tent. Stampede succeeds because Calgarians welcome millions of people into our city. That goodwill matters. A few operators do not get to treat neighbours like garbage and damage the reputation of an event that belongs to all of us. By now you've seen the coordinated smear campaign from out-of-town politicians. They think you're stupid and want you to believe that we're somehow cancelling Stampede by asking the big tents to use the same rules in place at Coachella, Lollapooloza and all the other world class festivals. That's the first piece of bullshit. We're not talking about Stampede at all. We're talking about a few off-site tents that have been treating their neighbors like garbage. Here's the truth. In the last few years, the tents were given a special exemption way above and beyond what was in place up until about 2019. People living near these tents were told to call 311 and wait. Their windows shook and broke. Their shelves rattled. Music ran on weeknights until 2 or 3 a.m. They dealt with property damage, public disorder, and excessive intoxication outside their homes. Thousands of Calgarians raised their concerns. And just like when we repealed blanket rezoning, the city chose to listen to the people rather than answer to the money. The second piece of bullshit is that Calgary's rules suck compared to everywhere else. In fact, the changes are modest. There's no change on weekends. But on weeknights, concerts now need to wrap up by 1230am. Even with this change, it means that Calgary still allows outdoor music later than anywhere else in North America. The third piece of bullshit is that this was done last minute. This wasn't a last minute change. The big tents knew in February that their exemption was under review. Cowboys was told again in May. Their exemption depended on managing noise, safety, and impacts on nearby residents. They did not meet that standard. But what isn't bullshit is that as your mayor I'm fighting for you. I want you to know that a permit is not a licence to bully a neighbourhood. It is not a profit guarantee. I was elected to stand up for Calgarians, not to take orders from wealthy donors, lobbyists, or politicians protecting their friends. I am more than happy to seek compromise and work with operators who respect Calgarians. But I answer to the nurse on an early shift, the parent getting kids ready for school, and the worker who needs sleep. So no. We are not cancelling Stampede. We are protecting it. Stampede succeeds because Calgarians welcome millions of people into our city. That goodwill matters. A few operators do not get to damage the reputation of an event that belongs to all of us. If you want to do business in Calgary, respect the people who live next door.
