🇨🇦 September 21 and September 22nd 2006 were among the most dangerous days Canadian troops faced in Afghanistan, especially for the soldiers responsible for the logistical clean‑up and route‑clearance work that kept U.S. and NATO forces moving.
These days, when Canadian combat engineers and sappers literally stepped into the harshest conditions, clearing explosive hazards from roads, culverts, and village approaches. It was the dirtiest, MOST unforgiving job on the battlefield — slow, exposed, and carried out under constant threat. Every stretch of ground had to be checked, every suspicious mound or scrap of metal investigated.
The Taliban’s IED campaign turned routine movement into a deadly puzzle, and Canadians were the ones who solved it metre by metre.
Their work wasn’t glamorous whatsoever, but without it, convoys stalled, supplies froze, and missions collapsed.
**These two days show the sheer BRUTAL physical and mental strain placed on Canadian troops who faced danger not in sudden bursts, but in long, grinding hours of deliberate, painstaking labour.
They worked in heat, dust, silence, and fear, knowing that one wrong move could cost lives.....would cost their own life.
And yet, they kept going — clearing the way for AMERICAN units, NATO partners, and Afghan civilians who depended on safe passage.
These were the hardest jobs, the dirtiest jobs, the most demanding jobs troops faced.
So, when someone asks, are we proud?
or when MAGA says Canada has "no military" — Just look upon bravest of the brave who did this work —
Proud of our Canadian Armed Forces?
You’re damn right we are.
Jamais nous ne reculerons, même face à la mort.
