I do. It's actually a really simple answer. Kids can understand it. I'll tell you the story now so you can be ready when you finally have grandkids, Mario Awful. For decades, Israelis tried to work with the Gazans, believing the impossible: that people who have declared that they want nothing more than to have Israel destroyed and Jews killed might be able to be persuaded to be friends by giving them land, money, resources, opportunities, and an infinite amount of patience. During those decades, huge amounts of humanitarian aid was sent to the Gaza Strip, which they used to militarize and to spend many years planning a savage surprise attack against the people helping them. Almost everyone in the world took up their cause, even many Israelis who lived right next door, even though the Gazans were taking advantage of all that help. They were offered everything but wouldn't accept it because all they wanted was Israel to be destroyed and Jews to be driven out or, preferably, dead. They were so fixated on that goal that nothing else mattered, and nothing else was good enough. They even used water pipes to build rockets and dug terror tunnels under their city and deep into Israeli territory to prepare for a surprise war. On an important Jewish holiday and their sabbath, the Gazans sprung their surprise attack. That was October 7, 2023. They launched over a thousand rockets at 6:30 am. The Israelis heard the sirens and knew they only had seconds to hide in their shelters from these attacks. By the way, every Israeli house has a bomb shelter in it because these kinds of attacks are so frequent. Also, every Israeli adult and child, little boys and little girls, knows from as soon as they can walk that when the sirens sound to go to the shelter because it is so important and so common. As the Israelis went, exhausted and sleepy, to their shelters to hide from the rocket attack, the Gazans sent a large armed force across the fence into Israel to do the most heinous things to the Israelis that you can imagine. Over a thousand were murdered. Things so horrible you cannot describe them to children happened everywhere. The Gazans celebrated and filmed themselves and put it on the internet, bragging and boasting about unimaginable horrors and murders. They dragged Israelis, including women, children, and babies and dead bodies, into their terror city and terror tunnels and started abusing and killing them slowly, using them and their corpses as collateral against the Israeli people and military. This lasted for over two years, with the last hostage's remains returned at the end of January 2026 after being taken in October 2023. The scale and nature of this attack is so horrific that it cannot be described politely, but its true evil wasn't just in the barbarity of its forces, which did unspeakable things to completely innocent men, women, and children everywhere they went, including many who openly supported them for years, but in how they took advantage of the trust and help they were given to do it. Gazans had spent years exploiting the goodwill of Israelis in the Gaza Envelope to gather intelligence, working as gardeners, housekeepers, taxi drivers, etc., to gather detailed intelligence of the neighborhoods and homes they would systematically attack starting on October 7. So many Israelis were betrayed at their trust and goodwill toward the Gazans, and by it. While they hid from those rockets in their shelters, Hamas terrorists systematically went through the carefully mapped streets of their neighborhoods, broke into houses, and shot them dead through the doors of their shelters, or crashed in through the walls from the outside using their own farming equipment to do it. Hamas terrorists knew the Israelis would be hiding from the rockets and knew where they'd be hiding, and they murdered them while they hid, deliberately, planned out in advance and for years. These people weren't just Israelis or Jews. They were innocents. In fact, as far as it goes, many of them were the greatest champions for the Gazans in Israel. Didn't matter. They were Israelis. They were Jews. They had to die in the most horrible ways you can think of. They had to be desecrated. They had to be taken hostage. It all had to be celebrated on video streamed live onto the internet to excite their radical friends around the region and the world. The horror is actually incomprehensible. Had this happened to Americans in the United States from one of its neighbors, the response Americans would have demanded cannot actually be comprehended. I stand in awe at how restrained and cautious and decent and good the Israelis have been, and it is to my slight embarrassment knowing that our own people, our own forces, wouldn't have managed a fraction of that decency, however much we would match the unparalleled effectiveness of these operations. So, when Israel realized what had happened to them, what was still happening to them, how their trust, support, and patience had been taken advantage of in the nastiest and cruelest way human beings can possibly imagine, for zero good reasons and only unbelievably evil ones, they set out to make sure it would never happen again. They started a war of rescue and to end the military capacities of the Gazans, who were and still are governed by a radical terrorist group that even has in their charter that they want every Israeli driven out and every Jew that can be killed dead. Israel waged a patient war with the highest accuracy rate of any in the entire history of urban warfare, taking great pains and many casualties to spare innocent life, even when that innocent life openly supports the terror regime that governs them and wants them dead. The Gazans, however, had spent decades turning their entire city into a hidden military fortress, hiding weapons, entrances to terror tunnels, command centers, and every conceivable military target within civilian neighborhoods, including even homes, schools, hospitals, and houses of worship. Israel did what it had to do as carefully as it could be done. The devastation you see is the result of the evil of Hamas and the Gazans who support it having spent decades organizing their city to become a vast, sprawling military installation. The Gazans and their terrorist leaders took this organizational approach specifically for two reasons. One was to deter Israel from ever attacking or disabling their military installations at all. Even when the devastation seen here, that remained the case. Israel took great pains to minimize, including casualties, including complicated legal approvals, including warning both civilians and combatants in Gaza of incoming attacks against the installations, trying to save all innocent (and a lot of not-so-innocent) life. Another was to produce this propaganda, which Mario Awful, after having his account built to giant size by @elonmusk himself, spreads and promotes with foolish emotion-driven emojis and devastating lies of omission of these facts. Even as Israel dismantled the entire military capacity of Gaza bit by bit (which is what you see in the video here), they sent aid: more food, medicine, and other supplies than have ever been sent to a population controlled by an enemy military in the history of warfare, period. The terrorist leaders leveraged every bit of it against them, stealing it and starving their own people, creating propaganda campaigns about genocide and forced starvation, and even building more rockets out of raw materials including water pipes, which they then fired at Israel. Bit by bit, Israel dismantled as much of their military apparatus as they could and rescued or recovered all of their hostages, including among them Americans. The result is what you see. The result you see below is the most painstakingly moderate response a decent human being of even the slightest comprehension could possibly imagine, and yet that's what the Israelis have accomplished in Gaza. And they accomplished it while the world hated them for it, scrutinized everything not just for any legitimate breaches of perfection but for a litany of illegitimate accusations of things so voluminous that they could not even be recorded, except that they were in the relentless propaganda of social media, the global enemy propaganda channels, and even the mainstream press, almost all amplified and repeated by even allegedly good, decent conservatives who found these lies a perfect reason either to reveal their underlying but hidden hatred for Jews or to turn to that evil on false pretenses you are promoting, even now, even today. So when you sit down to tell your grandkids how humanity allowed Gaza to happen, tell them the real story. Humanity allowed Gaza to become a terrorist militarized city openly dedicated to the destruction of Israel and the murder and desecration of Jews and Jewish bodies by believing in some asinine humanitarian concept that defies all logic. It happened by creating a global political situation that, for reasons of Communist political correctness and soft-hearted and softer-headed compassion, refused to believe the simple reality of the situation. Mx. Andrews, allow me to explain what happened in Gaza, to shed a little clarity on the picture you have posted. What happened in this photograph is that Israel finally acted as the adult in the room and STOPPED LETTING GAZA HAPPEN. You see, Gaza has been happening for a long time, and about three years ago, it decided to make sure everyone in the world understood what it was about. Most people got the story backwards, maybe especially over there in your Eurozone. Gazans, under the leadership of Hamas over the last twenty years or so, and Fatah before that, have been slowly turning their entire city into a war crime. You see, it is a war crime to transform civilian installations into military outposts, including weapons depots, stations for launching rockets (at innocent civilians, no less), command centers, entrances to terror tunnels that could be used to launch military campaigns (against innocent civilians) and hide hostages in horrific conditions, and the like. Under the direction of openly militant terrorist organizations, they have been busy transforming their own infrastructure, including much purchased with direct humanitarian aid provided both by Israel and many Western nations, into munitions and functioning dual-purpose military and civilian structures. Again, they did this more or less to their entire city, including residential areas and buildings, schools, hospitals, and even houses of worship, and not just their own. Of course, they did this with tremendous public support from the Gazans, but given the circumstances on both sides of the equation, it's almost impossible to tell how much of that support was the result of the hideous and murderous ideology (read their charter, or lots of other things!) and how much is the result of terroristic coercion on the part of the terrorist militants running the place, who kill their own people for a variety of reasons including ensuring their support (and also just to make propaganda to falsely condemn Israel and the West). For decades, the world, including your Eurozone, but also Israel and my United States, patiently tried to find a workable solution to this problem. Israel tried a lot of things, including withdrawing from Gaza entirely on their own at great inconvenience and not just (almost endless, almost!) patience and aid but also opening up opportunities for Gazans to work in Israel, offering again and again for there to be a stable two-state solution (ask Bill Clinton about this!), and generally believing that if they were generous enough with the Gazans and gave them enough opportunities, they might come around to making it work. The Gazans, under the direction of Hamas, repaid the world and especially Israel for this kindness, help, and patience by meticulously planning a day of violence beyond human comprehension in its horror, which we know about partly because they gleefully recorded and streamed it themselves while they committed unbelievably heinous acts not against an opposing army under instigated hostilities but against innocent civilians, who they did unspeakable things to while dragging both the living and desecrated bodies of the dead back into their hidden terror tunnels to hold as collateral against Israel, knowing how much the Israelis and Jews in general value life. It was found to be the case that the reason the horrors of 7 October, 2023, were as successful as they were, from Hamas's perspective, is because the Gazans and Hamas were using the opportunities they were granted in the hopes of increasing peace and cohabitation--opportunities for things like jobs as housekeepers, gardeners, taxi drivers, and such, there in the Gaza Envelope in Israel--that these generous opportunities given in good faith were used as opportunities to gather the necessary intelligence for this heinous, terrible operation to have succeeded. That is, what Israelis offered Gazans in good faith was taken not just in bad faith but in the worst possible faith, literally murderous (and that's not even the worst part, as you can go watch for yourself anytime you like as an MEP or even just as a human being with an internet connection). So, what had been happening in Gaza was a steady planning and then execution of something that deserves to be placed among the most grotesque and unconscionable set of coordinated activities in the history of war crimes, at least in the last century. What was happening in Gaza was that Hamas and the Gazans who support them, which is close to all of them, were systematically turning their entire city into a war crime while launching war crimes at innocent Israelis for years and then committing one of the most barbaric things to have happened in living memory all against innocent Jews, not military combatants, many of whom were ardent supporters of a peaceful co-existence with the Gazans that was simply impossible, based wholly on hippie-dippy wishful thinking and striking Leftist naivete. The photograph you have shared below is one image of Israel putting a stop to that, God be praised. May we all thank Israel for the effort and sacrifice, and may the honorable memories of those who made the ultimate sacrifice be a blessing to the world, even to you and your ungrateful Irish. While the picture below looks like terrible devastation, there are a couple of things to say about it that demand witness. First, it is devastation exactly in proportion to the war crimes of the Gazans and Hamas, specifically in turning civilian infrastructure into military infrastructure across more or less their entire city. They took extraordinary pains, all well documented, to minimize civilian casualties and all other forms of collateral damage, often suffering casualties of their own in the effort, so what you see here can be most assuredly understood to be the minimum necessary response to neutralize military installations in a hostile territory that declared war through a surprise attack on civilians at 6:30 am on the sabbath on a holiday. Let me reiterate: good Israeli men and women not only went above and beyond to risk their lives but also sustained casualties, including the deaths of many, to minimize the death and damages to Gaza such that only valid military targets would be struck. The result is as you see. Gaza is in bad shape because Hamas and the Gazans arranged that to be a minimum necessity, and Israel left it the way it is now specifically as a result of achieving the lowest collateral damage rate of any in the entire history of urban warfare. That is, Israel paid with its own blood to minimize the deaths of innocents, even among these heinous enemies and under these unbelievable conditions. Meanwhile, Israel did this while receiving not the support or even the blind eye of the world but its scorn. Surely you've seen. Hell, Mx. Andrews, you appear to be participating, and shame on you for that, shame everlasting wouldn't be enough. So on top of these injuries, Israel has borne great insult for its responsibility, morality, and endless honoring of human life, slandered and accused around the world, even by important "statesmxn" like yourself and most of your wretched colleagues, both at home in Ireland and across the EU, never mind the United Nations.
