This would be a great way to collapse the US automotive industry. I can totally see @POTUS doing this with all that he has done to everything else.

"Build $NIO here with American workers" sounds like an opening. It isn't.
A US factory does nothing about the actual barrier.

Commerce's connected-vehicle rule is already on the books:
• Chinese-linked vehicle software banned starting MY2027
• Chinese-linked connectivity hardware banned by MY2030
• It can apply to a car assembled in the US if the automaker has a Chinese-ownership link
So a Chinese EV built in Ohio still gets blocked if the code and chips inside it are Chinese.
And for any Chinese EV maker worth owning, the code and chips are the product.

• One chip matches roughly four Nvidia Orins
• Several billion yuan of R&D behind it
That's the stack the US can't allow. It's also what makes NIO more than an assembler.
Meanwhile the business doesn't need America:
• 262,893 deliveries through August, +57.9% YoY
• ES8 hit 140,000 deliveries in 335 days
Tune out the headline. The bull case is still in China, and it's still growing.
