Today, on the birthday of PARI co-founder Sonya Gill, the People's Archive of Rural India is launching a Senior Fellowship of Rs. 5 lakh for women journalists and filmmakers, in honour of her work. Sonya worked for four decades for Women’s Rights with the All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA). She remained very active even as she battled multiple rounds of cancer. Her work was rooted in the lives and struggles of everyday people, particularly working-class women. Her passing on August 25 robbed the women's movement of a fine leader - and me of my beloved life partner of 40 years. This is a Senior Fellowship for women reporters/film makers. They are expected to produce 10 field reports / one or more documentary films across rural India, over a period of 1-2 years. The Fellowship will cover Women’s Rights, including Women’s Labour, Livelihoods, Health, Justice – and more. Will update you with further information soon as we can.

The procession also acted as a publicity for his forthcoming film "Geet Gaya Pattharon ne“, as is evident from the poster beside the idol. The film starred Jeetendra and his daughter Rajshree, debut film for both of them. Filmmaker V Shantaram celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi at his Rajkamal Studio in Mumbai every year.

A thought-provoking read. @emboreports Something @ganitlabs and I have discussed before: how best to make reproducible data more visible. One way is for journals to let readers tag figures when someone has successfully reproduced an experiment. By limiting this to successful experiments, we can also prevent negative trolling of papers and scientists. When looking at a figure, if I had a way of knowing that 3 other scientists have given a REPRODUCIBILITY THUMBS UP (👍) to a panel in a figure, this could add a lot of value to the data. There has to be a way to share the positive data in a way that ensures the experiments were done as suggested by the thumbs-up. This could be a simple start to factor reproducibility into the discussion. Maybe @EMBO @Co_Biologists could lead a pilot to see how this works. link.springer.com/article/10…
