What does it take to build a pathway for developers to find their place in Bitcoin open source?
In the latest episode of Btrust in Focus, @proofofpaul sits down with @StephTitcombe, Head of Program & Operations at Btrust, to discuss the evolution of Btrust Builders and what it takes to support developers as they enter, grow and contribute to the Bitcoin ecosystem.
They talk about the lessons that have shaped the program, the communities and projects that have grown around it, and the role of mentorship in creating a cycle where developers eventually become mentors and leaders themselves.

Abraham (@abeeujah) is a developer based in Nigeria 🇳🇬, whose Bitcoin open-source journey began through @BitDevsKaduna.
He built his knowledge through @ChaincodeLabs’ protocol development seminars, the @FreeRoutingAf Kaduna Lightning Developer Bootcamp, and Bitcoin Core Principles by @libdesatoshi.
He also completed the 2026 BOSS Challenge and was featured by @btrust_builders as one of eleven African participants whose journeys stood out.
With the starter grant, Abraham will focus on testing, protocol libraries, and developer tooling across rust-bitcoin and rust-lightning, strengthening the building blocks developers use for Bitcoin and Lightning applications.

The end of a program is not always the end of the story.
Months after the 2026 ₿OSS Challenge, @abeeujah, @jolah99, Winterrdog, @tech_lateef, @JunaidAaliyah, @dev_useee, @chukwuxdike, @Su_Githaiga, @Its_nkathake, @_RulesPlayer and @_ceceji are still finding different ways to contribute to Bitcoin open source.
Some are reviewing PRs and contributing to established projects. Others are building new applications, improving developer tools, exploring Lightning infrastructure, mentoring the next generation of developers and deepening their understanding of Bitcoin’s technology.

My @btcplusplus Nairobi workshop, Mining Illustrated, is now out on video. After some classroom time on how Bitcoin is mined, we did labs: everyone mined against a Bitcoin network we ran right in the room, using @256FOUNDATION's Mujina and Hydrapool.

He was part of the inaugural @btrust_builders Rust for Bitcoiners 🦀 pathway, where he deepened his understanding of Rust and Bitcoin development, and graduated as the top student.
He has since become an active contributor to privacy-focused Bitcoin tools, especially Rust-Payjoin and related Payjoin projects.
@bitcoinzaddy's contributions have included privacy-safe logging, code audits, spendable coin checks, documentation improvements, and work on simulations for multiparty Payjoin.
With the starter grant, Oyindamola will focus on advancing multiparty Payjoin research and implementation.
