Been watching the entire World Cup. I'm confused. Why was no VAR used twice on the England/Ghana match. Goalie tackle and the Ghana near breakaway late 70s minute. Help?

Ah yeah, there's this thing that happens in the sport sometimes when the ref is a fucking idiot

Stick around and you'll eventually figure out that VAR is just a tool for ensuring the big teams win more often.

I need help also. I thought I understood the rules. Regarding the Ghana breakaway, the England player definitely did not touch the ball and definitely bumped the Ghana player. Why no penalty kick for Ghana?? Someone please explain.

The goalie foul has a defender behind him and outside the box. VAR can only check penalties (in the box) and red cards (fouls with no defender behind). Definitely should have been a foul though. The latter one was simple incompetence or bias, depending on your preferred theory.

VAR is always watching but not always confirming what you think you saw.

Announcer said that in the case of the keeper tackle, the presence of another defender nearby made the hypothetical foul only a yellow card (not the last man) and possible yellow card offenses outside the box are not eligible for review.

Bad refereeing imo But I also suspect they all gor a memo after the 3 red card opening match. . .

People will try to convince you that your eyes were lying to you, but it was clear as day for that tackle in the penalty area. That’s a clear foul as he didn’t play the ball and absolutely should have been a penalty. Why didn’t it happen? Anywhere from incompetence to corruption

The incompetence of VAR and Referees is coded into the sport. We just live with shit like this and accept that such is life.

The first one I give benefit of the doubt since neither player had control of the ball at all, but the second one definitely should have been a pen for Ghana imo, I have no idea what VAR is doing there

It was used just it didn’t reach the threshold to call the referee over to the screen. You’ll discover, as in most sports, subjective decisions often go to the favourites. See Messi tackle in the first game that would’ve got anyone else in the tournament suspended for 2 games

Ghana player missed ball. Then it’s just a collision with keeper. If he’d got the ball…. Potentially a red card for Pickford…..

Its either incompetence and the ref and VAR should get sent home from the world cup, or more likely they are trying to rig england world champs like they rigged arsenal premier league champs

because it doesn't work for them. If the teams were reversed, we would have seen 20 replays of each on and red cards and penalty given.

Pickford one I thought the attacker ran into him, no foul. Konsa one was probably the clearest penalty I've ever seen.

For Pickford’s tackle, it would not have been a red card so they couldn’t review it, I suppose. For the penalty? That was terrible. They should have overruled the ref.

I want england to win but that was a red card and a penalty respectively.

Goalie one isn’t reviewable by var as it’s outside the area and the covering defender means it can’t be a red card. The Konsa tackle was actually reviewed and they somehow deemed it not a clear and obvious error. Strange one

Sometimes the VAR officials check incidents in the background without stopping the game. If they think the referee has missed something important or made a clear and obvious error, they'll notify him and recommend a review.

I’ll explain with the only way you’ll understand: VAR is like a chess engine that only calls out clear blunders, not debatable moves. It didn’t see a forced win or obvious mistake. So the original move stood and play continued.

Goalie tackle was given as a foul against us despite the GK going for the man and leaving the ball😭

Because the powers that be will rule everything in Englands favour just so they can act like diversity is a brilliant success story & we should open the floodgates to infinite more.

Well, it's like this: FIFA and their refs are super corrupt and they do these little things to help a national team with more 'worldwide' reputation. Ghana winning would be too big of a surprise, so yeah...

I have no idea on the second one. Ghana should have had a penalty there.
