This utterly bleak line from the Resolution Foundation on living standards in their overnight Budget analysis. "Between now (2026-27) and the end of the Parliament (2028-29), typical incomes are forecast to fall in total by £1,050 (3 per cent)." In other words: On average we'll be getting poorer in the run-up to the next election.

“Where is my breathing space?” This is how millions of small business owners are feeling up and down the country after Burnham's failure of a budget. A Reform UK government will scrap the tax on overtime, raise the VAT threshold to £150,000 and get our economy growing.

Business owner, Paul Bowen, asked where is this so called "breathing space" from John Healey? Many other business owners are wondering the exact same thing. Well said Paul. 👏🏽

There it is. The real world.
‘John Healey, if you’re listening, where’s my breathing space?’ Business owner Paul Bowen has criticised the Chancellor’s promise to give ‘breathing space’ through measures in his Budget. #budget #businesses #costofliving

BREAKING The OBR suggests that successive increases in the national living wage and the employment rights act will hit jobs It says the employment right act will have a ‘negative economic impact’ and hit businesses through ‘increased uncertainty, lost flexibility and higher Labour related costs’ It says that these will ‘more than offset’ any potential increase in productivity

UK new minimum wage: £27,456 per year. Higher-rate tax bracket: £50,270. 1.8x difference. In 1997 there was a 5x difference. Mind boggling.

A day on the bins with the lads at Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council! I joined the crew to get stuck in and see first hand the hard work that goes into keeping our borough’s bins emptied. A big thank you to Paul (@GMB_union rep) and Wayne for having me along, showing me the ropes and keeping me on my toes! Watch the video for a look at our day👇
