Having lived here for nearly three years, my brain shut down totally earlier and I realised that not only do I not know which bins are tomorrow, I can't even remember which colour bin is which - all I know is they're the other way round from my old local council.

Why is he getting shinier? Is he oozing something?

We've got one of those. A few minutes ago, it was wearing a pair of pants on its head after my wife threw a load of washing downstairs.

"6G will be based on light" - well, just close your curtains then.

I set today’s Guardian Quick Cryptic. The QC is the nursery slopes crossword aimed at absolute beginners - a smaller grid and each puzzle tells you what four types of wordplay are involved so you know what to look for. If you’re cryptic-curious, it’s here: theguardian.com/crosswords/q…

First time that I've ever got beyond "This is just nonsense, isn't it?" - really wasn't expecting to finish it. It's a horrible day outside, guess I might as well grab a coffee and head into the archive.

Diarrhoea is a shit to spell
Does anyone else have a particular word that they just never spell correctly the first time? I don’t care how many times I try, I never get “Millennial” right on the first attempt. So many L’s and N’s and i’s !!

When my old bottle opener broke I was upset, but hey, it was 80+ years old, it happens. I still had a modern one and surely that one wouldn't break... Well... I should have known better. Modern is of course not better, time to buy another antique one ;)

On a semi-serious note - bar blade. Literally a flat strip of metal with the bottle opener bit cut into one end. Too simple to break... although mine is an expert at hide and seek.

I know you’re joking but for those who think less is wrong: there are fewer days left, but the sum total of days is less. That’s why ‘8 items or less’ is correct. Eg 4 is less than 8.

Fewer 😬 (I’m only really doing this to inspire you to draw something about those annoying pedants who should react less. Something like a group of grammar Nazis who are led by Der Fewer)

For the most part - and I say this as a reformed grammar pedant - it doesn't actually matter. What's grammar for? To ensure clarity in language, surely? Show me a single sentence which can't be understood if you swap less for fewer, or vice-versa. See also: Who/whom.

Ever tried Leffe Brune? I quite like the Blonde, but personally I think the Brune is a bit special.

I'd love to be the person who comes out with this sort of thing. "You've lifted 365,000 shrews!"

It will be difficult (but not impossible, obviously) for Tiny Tommy’s hapless marks to bang on about how he’s innocent when he plead guilty in court.

I've literally just seen a tweet from a supporter claiming that he didn't plead guilty and that people should check carefully before they claim that he did.

Yeah, but he works hard maintaining them to a good standard, right? Surely he's not just paying his agent to do the bare minimum? ...right?

I was going to say that I approve... but to be honest, I'd approve of most pie fillings.

Not today, but there's a good chance that the person who sent it to me had been.

Didn’t win the lottery again tonight. Interesting. Now, you have to wonder - is there another agenda at play here?

Took me about 2 full minutes trying to remember Matt Le Tissier’s name just now - interesting. Get in touch if this has happened to you since you took the vaccine 🤔 🛜

For some reason, I found myself thinking about Alexei Sayle this morning, but couldn't for the life of me remember his name. I briefly settled on Adrian Chutney.

A small aside. If you rock up merely to correct someone’s spelling, and are able to, that would highlight the fact that you know what they meant to write and know perfectly well what they are saying. This makes you, at least, part arsehole. As you were.

Language pedantry in general - especially people who get hung up on rules like less/fewer and who/whom. Show me a sentence - any sentence at all - that's impossible to understand if you use the wrong words out of those examples.
