I was my first boss’s life assistant, on top of doing my real job. In addition to getting her lunch, she called me on weekends for favors, including getting her parents Broadway tickets. She saved me when the CEO wanted to fire me. And entrusted me with being part of the company’s IPO team and the opportunities that presented.

Yes they should. When I still worked a W2 job, I’d see this attitude all the time. Working for a successful weekly, a very small staff, you just had to do random stuff all the time. Younger staff members would complain about something “not being in their job description.” Like just shut up and do it. That’s what I did. Me and a younger staffer got big raises later because we were the ones who would just get stuff done regardless of what it was.

Michael, what you meant to say was that reading this column reminded you that every young person in America should read Curmudgeon's Guide, which said it better and more concisely.

Funny I have the same opinion, but feel like his take reads a little oldman shaking a fist. Feed the lizard b/c rule number 1 in life and in work is don't be an asshole. You got someone who lost their husband and mom the same year desperate trying to raise a kid. Just be nice.

Every adult in America should first focus on fixing problems they themselves have caused before pontificating pompously on what young people should do or not do.

Yglesias would not have written this piece in this tone if the story had emerged from a Republican campaign in another contentious state, and your sharing of a known Democrat operative who openly celebrates deceitful, one-sided lying is shameful and a poor look for AEI

Recently changed jobs, not sure what I want to do with my future, and I think this is exactly what I needed to read. Don't really have parents or someone to help with this stuff, and it can be pretty confusing to navigate these days! Thanks for putting this on my radar.

Proportion matters. A boss who yells is a bad boss. A Senate race in Alaska is a bad place to litigate crickets. Ugly words deserve one plain answer, then cost of living and jobs. Note the timing. Note the stakes. Meatball ate well.

TLDR: An old liberal advises young liberals to stop bitching and take responsibility, like a conservative.

Many of the whiners on here complaining about boomers need to read it also!

I carried a lot of female bosses' pocketbooks for them. I didn't whine. I did my job.

Why is @jmart sharing this? We were scolded by calling that article bullshit mere days ago.

Okay, but I’m still annoyed that when I was an intern at The NY Observer in 2001 I had to retype Ron Rosenbaum’s interminable columns that he submitted via fax after writing them on a typewriter; he refused to use a computer.

Looking forward to @Rep_Peltola "nothing" her opponents clutching their pearls about her behavior when this corrupt and abusive administration is destroying our economy and constitutional norms
