Ava Gardner and Joseph Mankiewicz on the set of “The Barefoot Contessa.” (1954). Ava stands in front of her statue, which was sculpted by Assen Peikov. Peikov had asked the actress to remove her underpants as they were making an unsightly line. The uninhibited Gardner removed them at once, before whipping off her bra. “Is that better?” she asked. The sculptor recalled that light was streaming through the studio and “I could see everything. I really didn’t know where to look.”

Both of these things are true, and this is precisely why you should immediately dismiss anyone talking about water in "gallons" and not "acre-feet" or "cubic meters per second". People have no idea of the scale of the water cycle.
An Alaskan citizen initiative called the Rain Maker Act has emerged in response to a private company’s recent cloud-seeding experiments on the Kenai Peninsula. While the startup marketed the production of nineteen million gallons of water as a technological breakthrough to attract investors, critics argue the actual environmental impact was merely a negligible drizzle performed without local consent. The proposed legislation seeks to establish the strictest weather-modification bans in the United States to protect delicate ecosystems and salmon habitats from unregulated atmospheric testing. By imposing criminal penalties and reporting requirements, the act aims to shift control of the skies from private corporations back to Alaskan residents and state regulators. Ultimately, the movement emphasizes self-government and ecological preservation over the commercial interests of outside tech firms.

This man has almost singlehandedly brought El Salvador forward by at least a century, and he did it without LARPing as a Western liberal. He’s doing almost everything we wish to see transpire in the West, and he started from a substantially worse position than any Western nation. The aesthetics, the national mythos, the nod to history and tradition, the beautiful architecture, the brutalizing of criminals, and the orientation of a nation and people back towards that which rests above and beyond man. All of it is what the present hour calls for.

The American who was the inspiration for James Bond. Ian Fleming explicitly modeled the appearance of his spy on composer and actor Hoagy Carmichael. In the 1952 novel “Casino Royale”, fictional characters Vesper Lynd and René Mathis both remark that Bond bears a striking facial resemblance to the star. Vesper notes that while Bond looks exactly like him, he also carries "something cold" in his expression. Fleming returned to the comparison in his third Bond novel, “Moonraker.” The author envisioned Bond with dark, rugged, good looks featuring sharp cheekbones. Biographers have noted that Carmichael's bone structure bore a distinct resemblance to that of Ian Fleming himself, making 007 a subtle visual self-portrait of the author. So far no Bond actor has looked like Carmichael, but Henry Cavill would fit the bill better than most.

The shortest physics paper ever published is the 1951 Physical Review note by Friedrich Lenz, titled “The Ratio of Proton and Electron Mass.” At just 27 words long (plus one equation, one number and a single reference).

My eldest didn't get a HS graduation, so a handful of us parents held one for our kids. And it was weird to think, but I was actually thankful my father passed away ~6 mos. before the Covid madness began.

Covid. My first child never got a college graduation ceremony after working her whole life for that day. My father died in May '20 and never got a memorial service or a funeral. I am white hot to the end abt this sinful robbery of our humanity & spirit. I'll stay on it, Dad

New Hampshire is the only state with no restrictions on teachers carrying guns And it's never had a school shooting
The solution to school shootings is to permit teachers WHO ARE WILLING to carry. No need to force them. Also put a gunsafe in the school office. You don't need to announce which (if any) teachers are armed. Just permit it. Any shooter won't know who's armed or who's not and this will MASSIVELY diminish his ability to kill. He'll have to keep one eye over his shoulder at all times. He can't just blunder around with impunity. He has to hide behind doors, and creep through hallways while the unarmed teachers are hustling kids out of the building. It's a win-win. Even if zero of your teachers arm themselves because you live in Massachusetts, the shooter won't know that. He has to act as though they're armed. Suggestions for appropriate guns per specialty below.

went grocery shopping with my son today and a kind elderly man, an employee, came up to me and said "we're giving out samples of snacks for small children, would your little one like to try some?" I said sure and followed him back to his table, he gave my son a cup of crackers. He asked me if I had other children and I said yeah, I have a daughter that's at preschool, and a third on the way. He genuinely looked elated, congratulated me. He told me about his upbringing in small town Kansas, how when/where he was growing up having 6+ kids was the norm, how he misses seeing big families. I told him my wife and I want a big family some day and he just smiled and looked at me, said "You're doing good, you're doing the right thing, don't listen to anyone else. Children are a blessing and God will provide for you." I stood there and gladly listened to him talk about his childhood for a while, and he again reminded me to trust in God. I know it sounds cheesy but that was a genuine whitepill. Sometimes you need encouragement like that. Very human moment.
